Officiating - New Interpretations

Can we go back to the old rules? Defenses might as well just let an offensive player go to the basket and get out of the way because if there is any contact...foul and free throws. It's ridiculous. A defensive player can be in good position and the offensive player initiates contact and it shouldn't be a foul...it's part of the game and always has been. It's a no call if the defensive player doesn't swat down or bump forward.

I get wanting to stop the MSU style thuggery, but you have to allow defensive players to hold position when they are squarely maintaining position. Allowing Niang to just barrel into guys who are in position and calling the foul is a travesty. I'M NOT SAYING WE LOST BECAUSE OF OFFICIATING...I'M SAYING THE NEW INTERPRETATION SUCKS.

You have to stop the hand checking...that was the problem...let the defense play when they are in good position.

They've done a good job of eliminating hand checking.

I can't understand why officials now believe it's ok for post players to just lower their shoulders and start slamming into the chest of the defender until they get them off balance, then chuck up a shot, and the foul is on the defender? I mean, imagine a PG doing that out front. It would immediately be called and offensive foul. If it's a foul at the top of the key, then it's a foul on the block.

I agree with 1hawkeye1, I love the focus on player movement, both with hand checking being lessened and off the ball, but in the post it is ridiculous. Everyone, outside of McCabe, is allowed to just kamikaze their way into the lane and get a call. Niang would throw his fat *** at some poor defender, put his shoulder into the defender's chest and get the call.

Evidently, eye gauging is allowed….
