None of this explains how a program can lose to some of the worst programs and beat some of the best in the country. Nor does it explain how so many Hawks are in the NFL.
I'll work on that one... how much you give me for such an explanation? $$
Or some of us simply realize that it's just a freaking game and recognize that how we feel about our sports teams is not indicative of how we live our real lives. The ones that get so upset about a freaking game pretty much show themselves to be someone who has absolutely no life outside of their sports team(s) and live vicariously through their successes and failures. Back in the day, we used to call these guys LOSERS. Still do, as a matter of fact.
Flagpole at 430.
Ps NEIC as in northeast Iowa conf?
You realize it's possible to be upset about where the football program (or any program) is at and still have a real life, right? I'm certainly not happy with the state of things, and would expect to start seeing improvement very soon if I'm going to continue backing Ferentz. He's made it pretty tough to do the past 2-3 years.
But at the same time, I have a life outside of Iowa sports. And now that I no longer work at the DI, how they play has little impact on how I live any aspect of my life.
There are a lot of things worth getting upset about....wars, hunger, child trafficking, recessions....but to get upset about an amateur sports team played by young men trying to get an education and better themselves as students and men and coached by a man that by all appearances is the epitomy of character and everything else thats right and good with sports seems trivial and silly.
But thats just my opinion.

If you don't get at least a little upset when the team loses, or at least a little happy when they win, why do you bother rooting for them at all? THAT seems silly to me.

I would like to see the fan base unite behind the team. It would help motivate recruits to join the team. After all who wants to play for a fanbase that is constantly critical of them? Also being positive will motivate the players to want to play better for fans that appreciate them.
Not that hard to explain actually. Unless you are Alabama, you don't win all your games and you lose some you are supposed to win and win some you are supposed to lose. Happens to all programs. The only ones that don't know this are close minded fans lacking perspective. Happens to all programs

So all programs lose to Minnesota, ISU, Central Michigan, Western Michigan, and Northwestern?
Most decent to good programs will lose to a school this poor once every 5 years or less. Iowa has two of these bad losses every year.
