Official visits?

If he were to come to Iowa he would be joining a team that is a veteran group by that point. So he wouldn't have to be the man or even be a core member right away quite frankly with Gesell and Clemmons there. He can learn and get stronger. Getting him would help a ton for the following years recruiting when Fran will have to be in full out reload mode after next yrs class all graduates. I like where Iowa sits in this horse race. I think Ulis will have a tough time saying no to Fran.

We have good players, but Ulis would be a core guy immediately. This isn't Kentucky, where a top-30 recruit could conceivably come in and not be the guy.

Core guy meaning? Is he starting playing big mins right out of the gate? I'm not so sure. By that time Gesell and Clemmons will be jrs along with Jok. I think he will play but I don't think he will start right away and how big of mins he gets will depend on how he plays. I don't see him taking Mike or Sapps starting job from them right away anyway. Hope we get to find out :)

IMO Ulis would be our starting PG from day one. Gesell would move to off guard, where he may be best suited anyway, and Clemmons would be a quality back-up off the bench. PG's with Ulis' skillset don't come around often, and we don't have a guy like him on our current team. His ability to pass, handle the ball, and get into the paint will get him into the lineup right away.

With the departure of Marble next year, whoever starts in the backcourt needs to be able to score in double figures right away. That could be Ulis, it could be Gesell, it could be Jok, it could be all 3.

He will be a Hawkeye, or I will jump of the I-280 bridge in Toledo...

Holy Toledo batman! Hey wait, there is no I-280 bridge in Toledo, Iowa. :). That being said I certainly hope you are right Ollie. Sorry, too many re-runs on TV. A wise guy eh....... See what I mean?

So, while we are discussing his role when he gets here has anyone else heard anything else related to his visit besides his napping?

Rob Howe has wrote an article where he interviewed his dad since his visit. I'm not a member of scout so I couldn't read it. But I would love to know what all he said there. I'm too cheap to pay. Weather or not Ulis is good enough to start day one...I just don't see it. But if he is then I'll gladly be proven wrong. I can see him getting to the point where he starts later in the year. But day one I would think they'd ease him in let him get used to being a college student and D1 ball. PGs have an adjustment period along with Centers more then the other positions they have alot on their plate. PGs it's more mental the physical like the centers. But in Ulis case it'll be both. I'm itching to find out.

It basically said that Ulis's dad was very pleased with the family atmosphere involving McCaffrey's family with the program and the family feel the players themselves have. He said all schools say they have that, but with Iowa, it's definitely true. Doesn't sound like they're committing on any of the visits. They want to do their visits and then talk privately. His dad said he's not concerned with the rosters or what pg's the team already has. Tyler really likes the coaches which is why Iowa is still in it, imo. He feels his son is good enough to earn a spot anywhere. One thing his dad said multiple times is Tyler wants shooters he can dish the ball to.
