**OFFICIAL US OPEN GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP THREAD**

Can't wait for the action tomorrow. Phil, Tiger, and Bubba all in the same pairing and tee off around 9:30 central, and Zach tees off around 10.

Spliff...you may be close on the score. They set the course up to be very difficult. A lot of players are very unhappy about it.

It seems like one player always plays out of their mind and has a good tournament. I think -5 is the lead going into sunday, ending with -2 as the winning score. This tourney doesn't set up well for Zach Johnson, but does well for lengthy hitters like Bubba and DJ, however DJ's short game is sub par (pun intended) so I don't think he will be in contention.

Let me be the first to say I'm rooting for Dustin Johnson. He looked very good last week.

I like Dustin Johnson, but he may be too long for this course. Hitting fairways is uber important here. Not enough to just be straight, you've got to be able to shape shots to hold the side-hill lies.

I'm going to go with Hunter Mahan. -3 to win it.

Listening to the 19th Hole yesterday, the panel did not think that the course really favored long hitters. The one guy kept saying that everyone was going to be in the rough, and laying up often. They felt the short chipping and putting would be the difference.

Sleeper picks from the three panelists:

Zach Johnson
Ernie Els
Aaron Baddley

Overall picks from the three panelists:

Stricker
Kuchar
Woods

Woods is the only real bomber in those two groups of picks,so I think they really believe that length is not of supercritical importance here. Of course, the 670 yd par 5 and the 246 yd par 3 make it somewhat important, but missing on the right side of the green is ultra critical. Gonna be fun. Go Zach,Go Tiger.

Phil's swing coach was on the SVP show last week and said that Phil wouldn't be hitting a lot of drivers on this course. I would imagine the other long hitters will be going with a similar approach. I expect to see a lot of 3 woods off the tee box this week.

If the first hole is any indication of how the remainder of the Open goes these guys are in a hell of a lot of trouble. 6 out of the first 12 bogeyed the first. Phil just lost his ball and is rehitting his drive on 1. This may be brutal to watch.

I believe the opposite, it will be a lot of fun to watch.

So far:

Phil- three straight bogeys, including a missed par putt of 3.5 ft....+3 after 3
Tiger- three straight pars, missed one green, one fairway...solid even par.
Bubba- +1 after two, struggling on #3.

Early take, course is tough, hitting fairway is hard, and Tiger is solid.
