Jon & Deace think this year's schedule is the most difficult since Ferentz has been the head coach at Iowa. Not so sure about that.
Brand new freshman center - replacing 2 first-round tight ends, the Nelsons, Hesse, and Amani Hooker.

I voted 8-4 because that is who we are. Lose one we shouldnt, win one we shouldnt. Blow a couple teams out, lose a few by a close amount. Run to the short side of the field. Run on 3rd and long. Play really stout defense until we wear out in the 4th.

KF and staff get their bonuses and raises. We go to Florida for a bowl.

Wash, rinse, repeat.

I agree that I don't think it's the toughest.

In 2009 we played at ISU, at PSU, at Wisky, at MSU, and at OSU. Plus we played Michigan at home and played Arizona in the non-con.

In 2013 we played at ISU, at OSU, and at Nebraska with Michigan, Michigan State, and Wisconsin at home.

Heck, just 2 years ago in 2017 we played at ISU, at MSU, at NW, at Wisconsin and at Nebraska with OSU and PSU at home.

So yeah, this year's schedule is tough, but I don't think it's the toughest.

10 - 2. The offense should be improved with more options at WR. The RBs should be better with more experience. Two of the best OTs (now with even more experience) in the game should help keep Stanley upright and not hurried. And a senior QB. Defense should be top 15 in country, so that right there should have us in most any game. We have pretty much always played well at Ann Arbor under Ferentz. The hurdle is Wisconsin. That has to end.

I'm kind of torn between two predictions. I don't think either is outlandish.

Prediction 1:

Pretty sure wins: Miami, Rutgers, Middle Tenn, Illinois (4-0)
Pretty sure loss: Michigan (0-1)
Toss ups: ISU, Penn St., Purdue, Northwestern, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Nebraska (Iowa goes 4-3 in these games)

Iowa finishes 8-4, goes on to win the Holiday bowl and goes 9-4.

Prediction 2:

Iowa averages 4.5 YPC, Stanley throws for 28 TD's and 7 INT's, and average 32.5 PPG.

Iowa loses a close fought game @ISU and then gets blown out @Michigan. After that 3-2 start, Iowa goes 6-1 over the remaining 8 games to go 9-3 overall and wins the B1G West. They get beat in a tight game in the rematch with Michigan in the B1G title game. Iowa goes on to win their bowl game over a good opponent. So 9-3 regular season with a 10-4 overall record.

It's hard to say we beat PSU, Purdue, Wisky & N'western since they have owned Iowa recently. At Michigan, Ames High and Nebraska will be very tough along with a much improved Gophers team coming to Kinnick. This season will either be very good or really ugly. I don't see any middle ground for a record. We either kick ass or we bomb big time. Keep your fingers crossed.

I said 9-3, because that is the middle of where I expect.

On offense,
We already have the best tackle combination in the KF era. Tyler. L. position shift and amazing ascension to starting suggest to me he could be special. Will that happen this year though? I think so. If we can find two above average guards from the mix, this could be the best OL since 2002. Now, we do not have Dallas Clark for sure. But, could Stanley, playing behind the 2002 line, be close to Brad Banks? I think so. Other skill positions should be good enough if the line and QB play is great.

Even if the offense is not quite to the 2002 talent level, which is likely, I think this defense has the POTENTIAL to be one KF's best ever.

Even with this schedule, would double digit wins surprise me? Nope. But, because of the schedule and possible injuries, 7-5 is more than in play.

It’s been said that Iowa typically has a strong year when they have a tougher schedule on paper.

It’s also been said that when Iowa is hyped up preseason they typically have a down year. There’s been a decent amount of hype with this team and AJE.

Somethings gotta give I suppose.

I went with 9-3... if that were the case I hope our losses are to ISU, Michigan, and Penn State as we would likely win the west if that were the case.

If Wirfs has finally defeated his false start demon I’ll agree with that.

An offense like ours lends itself to pounding out hard fought 3rd & 1’s, and there’s not a more demoralizing momentum killer than going from 3&1 to 3&6 followed up by a statistically-likely punt or worse yet, a FG instead of a TD.

Unless/until we never see the name "Rastetter" on the back of a jersey EXCEPT on FGs & PATs, we simply can NOT afford to even be in punt formation, let alone actually "punt". We. Must. Not. Punt.*

*Unless, of course, Sleep-Dalton actually "wins" the punting job...

I went 9-3, but felt compelled to go 8-4. Either records should have Iowa in place for a top 25 spot to end the season with a bowl win and that SOS. That said, I just get this feeling that Iowa will lose to ISU early in the year and the sky will be falling and then they will turn around and win the West with whatever record that takes.

Yeah, I think Campbell finally wins his first Super Bowl in Ames this year.

7-5 I see losses to Michigan, Penn State, Wisconsin, Northwestern and Nebraska. Purdue and Iowa State are both potential losses but I think the defense wins us those. I don’t believe that this offense will be improved losing Fant and Hockenson and I think we have huge Oline and running game issues that haven’t been addressed. 2021 is our next schedule that will give us a shot at a huge season. Not gonna happen this year.

7-5. The defense should be good by most reports here. But the offense is what holds this team back on too many occasions. If we clean up the mistakes that doomed games like Wisky and State Penn last year we have a puncher's chance with anyone in the B1G. But that seems to be the case for many seasons. If Stanley can thrive under pressure and connect with the deep ball and get a good running game going it could mean a 10+ win year.

I voted 9-3. Hawks start 4-0 and I think the defense can shut down ISU. If the defense can be as good as top 15 and stop the run well and pressure the passer, get a good punter on the field then the hawks should be in most games. And I think the offense will score another 3-7 points per game.

Then 5-3 in the Big as I think some bounces and plays go our way unlike last year. I really want to see the hawks reap a new goal and win the Big West so I see them losing two crossover games against Mich and PSU and taking care of business in against West opponents.

Sorry to be that guy...but 7-5 is closer to who we are under KFz than 8-4. If we lose to ISU, 7-5. We beat em 8-4 or 9-3.
