**** official penn state game thread****

Interesting stat on Penn State's big man, Donovon Jack. He has attempted 144 FGs, and 54 of those attempts are 3-pointers. So he is jacking up 37.5% of his shots from long range. He hits 33.3% of them.

Penn State depends a lot on the the three point shot. They have put up 516 of them in 25 games, 20.6 per game on average. They have made only 32.6% of them, which places them at 261st in the nation.

I think Iowa will cover the 3 point shots and win rather easily. Got to get those long rebounds though.

I will take Iowa and give the points....

I'd like to see Iowa pound or drive it inside, get to the FT line, take fewer than 15 3s, use Gesell, and McCabe to create, and get another big margin victory on the road (not that the RPI would take that into their consideration).

I agree with your "bet" ... as long as they do what you suggest. Only tweak ... McCabe, create? No. Gesell and Marble create. Go with Gabe in place of McCabe inside.

Follow the rotation strategy as againt Michigan and Hawks win going away.

I'm looking forward to this game but I hope the players aren't looking past it. Penn State looks to be much improved and we've struggled to win there over the last 5 years or so. I think we are 1-5 in our last 6 trips to Bryce-Jordan. I'm hoping again that Aaron White comes out aggressive. Don't know what it is but he almost looks to be playing scared lately. Maybe he's not feeling confident in his shot or something. I see game after game where Aaron and Mel are taking 5 or 6 shots a game while Marble is putting up 17 to 20 shots per game. I think that needs to even out a bit. Maybe not at the expense of Marble but I'd like to see Mel more involved and see each of them shoot 10 to 12 times per game so the defense can't load up on the perimeter but instead have to defend the 3, the mid-range and in the paint. Go Hawks!!! Iowa 81, Penn State 67.

Iowa jets out to a 20 pt lead and cruises comfortably to a 88-71 win.

or

PSU arena (whatever the hell its called) is 1/4 full. Iowa can get no energy and plays like they don't care. Hawks stumble, bumble, and fumble to a 66-64 win after trailing most of the game.

Either way we win. But one way has me swearing and yelling at the TV, the other has me sitting comfortably and enjoying a few brews. Now what's it gonna be Hawks? HMMMMM?

We're still gonna win, but the Hawks have chosen the second option.

Cold shooting is what has me worried after being off a week. I am sure the team is anxious to get out there and play.

This has me concerned, as well. I completely expect Hawks to be cold from 3. Can take the poor perimeter shooting as long as they play lock down D on PSU from perimeter.

More concerning, week off + bad weather + < 8000 at the game = lethargy. If Hawks are lifeless and struggling to successfully execute at the rim, turning it over with sloppy play, missing freebies. It's gonna be a long day.

As others mentioned, would be great for AW to take his turn at getting Hawks off to fast start. They need to get up early, break PSU's will and keep it a 10+ point lead for the entire game.

Almost tip, time for a quick shower and pop the first "pop" (being nearly noon and all). I'm out.

GO HAWKS!! Take care of business.

Lethargy and Iowa don't belong in the same sentence. This is February. Iowa will have energy, just like they've had in every game this year. Fran won't allow them to let down at all.

I'm gonna call for a Woody breakout game today. Woody gets a double double and isnt in foul trouble. That's my prediction
