***OFFICIAL OUTBACK BOWL PREDICTION THREAD***

Hawks 31, LSU 16.

I think this one gets ugly early. Hawks will roll out good first drive on O and put up 7. Then, the D will take over. Phil mixes up the packages, baits the kid into throwing a pick six and the D gets another TO that the offense sits on and manages to put up 3 from. 17-0 by the time the second quarter starts. Kurt goes into prevent offense and plays field position game and does his halftime interview up 17-3. LSU makes halftime adjustments and narrows it to 17-13 by the middle of the third. Offense reignites as the line wears LSU down and we put up two more TDs. LSU sneaks another FG in somewhere in the 4th quarter.

I'll go with 42- zip hawks win. Never mind that would be stupid, 42-3

Seriously, I don't see us beating LSU by 15 points without some serious help. YOu really think our offense can score 4 TDs against a team like LSU? Well if they can that would be great, it would really light up my new year.

I just hope we can play defense well enough so that this O gets going.

LSU has a lot of great athletes out there.

After looking at the matchup and what LSU brings (I think we will be surprised at the backup QB's ability . . . read: Iowa's bend don't break will make him look good) I think this is going to be a CLOSE game. Looking at Kirk's history that's not saying much, but looking at how LSU has found a way to win this year . . . it is.

Iowa 27
LSU 23

This is going to be a tough game.

36-21 we blitz more than we have putting extra pressure on the backup QB doing the opposite of making him look good.

On cue, Gerg is stretching Weisman to multiple 3 and outs. LSU back up QB has his obligatory "career" game against the Iowa D. LSU jumps out 17-0.

Fortunately, the D is stout against the run and forces 2 fumbles - one so deep in LSU territory even Davis can't screw it up. LSU doesn't fathom the naked boot and JR flips it to CJ for a TD to make it 20-7 at the half.

Meanwhile Ken O'Keefe has caught the am shuttle and touches down just in time for 2nd half. He storms into the booth, *****-slaps Gerg out of his headsets while simultaneously screaming, "Canzeri, not Bullock!", says a quick incantation and invokes Rudock to find his inner Drew Tate.

Actually having running backs at his disposal this time around, Kenny masterfully crafts the perfect i-formation / play-action offense, unleashing a corn-fed can of woop-a$$ on the Bayou Bengals. After Cotton returns it to mid-field with 9 seconds left (and Jake Rudock doesn't know that, let alone Kirt) Jake finds Don Shumpert behind the Tiger's safety and hits him for the game-winning (and Shumpert's 1st) TD, 30-28, putting Donny in his rightful place next to Warren Holloway in Hawkeye football lore. "The Catch" de ja vu is so inspiring even Duck Dynasty sings 'bout on their next album.

Kenny quietly grumbles, "I don't need no stinkin' timeout to get the frickin' play in." and heads back to South Beach.

Either that or LSU 31 - Hawks 10.

I like Okeefe's analysis and I think that's about how this game goes down. Iowa jumps out early, Jake gets a little help from his friends on D either directly for a score or to set up another one, then Kirk sits on the lead, plays possession. Like Hawknick, Hawks 30-21.

Love all the optimism...but LSU having a starting QB out is deceiving. My guess is he will be well-prepared.

I agree, they have 3 weeks to prepare for this game and over a month to get Jennings up to speed. Honestly I think Iowa would have been fine with Mettenberger at QB as he is more of a pocket passer while Jennings is mobile. This is a balanced offense that runs the ball 60% of the time and averages 200 yards per game on the ground. So Parker has his work cut out for him to have a good defensive game plan to stop LSU.

More of the same from what we saw against Michigan and Nebby. LSU has trouble moving the ball and Iowa takes over in the 2nd half.

Iowa- 27

LSU- 14

Hawks end the year with consecutive wins over Michigan, Nebraska and LSU and end up ranked 21 in final poll.

LSU's defense is not nearly the soul sucking monster is was a couple years ago, they rely on their offense to get it done. I like our defense against anybody, Morris and Kirksey dominate and Hawks win 14-10.
