University of Iowa junior WR Marvin McNutt, Jr. will remain in school and compete for the Hawkeye football team as a senior in 2011. The announcement came Wednesday from McNutt, Jr. and Iowa Coach Kirk Ferentz.

“I was very happy to learn this morning of Marvin’s intentions to finish his career at Iowa as a senior next fall,â€￾ said Ferentz. “Marvin has done some tremendous things for our team the past several years and we anticipate him enjoying a very productive year as both a player and team leader in his senior year.â€￾

McNutt, Jr. (6-4, 215), a native of St. Louis (Hazelwood Central HS), is the second junior to announce his plans to remain with the Hawkeyes. DB Shaun Prater, a native of Omaha, NE (Central HS), announced earlier in the week that he would also stay with the Iowa program for his final season.

McNutt, Jr. led the Hawkeyes in receptions (53) and receiving yards (861) in 2010. He had eight touchdown receptions and was named second team all-Big Ten by league coaches. His yardage ranks 10th best for a single season at Iowa. McNutt, Jr. was moved from quarterback to receiver earlier in his career. In two seasons he has 88 receptions for 1,546 yards and 16 touchdowns. He ranks 16th in career receiving yards and is tied for fourth in career touchdown receptions.

Prater (5-11, 180) earned first team all-Big Ten honors by both league coaches and media. He recorded four pass interceptions and had a 33-yard touchdown return in Iowa’s 24-3 win over Penn State. He was fifth on the team with 68 tackles and second with six pass break-ups.

Iowa concluded the 2010 season with an 8-5 overall record following a 27-24 win over 12th-ranked Missouri in the Insight Bowl.

Nice to hear. I really think he will benefit from another year of college. He has the potential to have some very nice numbers as the featured receiver next season.

It is possible for McNutt to become the all-time yardage leader next year. 1070 yards would be a single season record I believe, and would put him at DJK, but he has had 1546 yards in 2 years as the "number 2" receiver.

High five!

So he needs 85 catches and 1070 yards and 6 TD next season to hold all 3 all time recieving record.

DJK 2616 yds
DJK 173 cathces
TD 21 TD

that would be a huge season

No way he touches the receptions mark. Yards is a long shot, IMO. He will break the TD mark though.

This is huge IMO. He is going to have a monster year and our offense could be very eplosive...as long as we keep KF away from it. I keed, I keed

Kirk's response must be the standard line.

Here is his response to Prater's news:
“I was very pleased to learn of Shaun Prater’s decision to return to the team for his senior season. Shaun has played very good football for us the past few years and I expect him to continue growing both as a player and team leader next season.â€￾

And to McNutt's news:

Good news thought
