Official Iowa vs Wichita State Game Thread

No shame in losing this one. WSU is a good team. Hawks are young, and this is a learning experience for them. They competed tonight.

Exactly right. It's going to take time for our freshmen to learn and get better. They will learn from this loss and get better. I think Marble needs to play within his capabilities. This NBA talk is only putting pressure on him to do more than what is reasonable. It's going to take a team effort for this team to be very successful. I think we will get there but there are goin to be growing pains along the way. At this point our post play is still weak but it will get better as time goes by.

Yup. Being soft and not very athletic is not a good combo
I disagree. Iowa is athletic and capable of holding their grounds quite well. Plus their depth as the season progress will help them in out a lot. WSU was well coached and was clicking a little better than Iowa. Its one game. It's not time to go football Iowa on this team. They are a good young squad that is only going to get better. I like this game, because it brought some important teachings and experience in the long run.

Im also shocked that Eric May is playing so much... I always have thought he was pretty terrible. Am I missing something?

They have been a good team lately and were a 5 seed last year.

This is one of the most ignorant statements I've seen here. If this is what you think, just stop being a basketball fan, because you really suck at it.
i retracted this comment a few posts down from it...i was moreless looking for a pick-me-up from the trainwreck fb season...hadnt watched bball in a couple years, and wasnt aware that wsu was even on the radar of college bball...my mistake...lot of year left and hope it goes well

Yeah, 13 points, 6 rebounds and 1 turnover, is that a stat line that tells you he shouldn't be playing?

I was more referring to him being 2-6 from the floor and those 4 were gimmie lay ups. I have a hard time seeing another Iowa player having less production in his minutes.

Really, he was getting to the line and keeping Iowa in the game. There is more to it then just looking at his 2-6. He was 9-10 from the line.

He's been playing pretty well so far this year.

Honestly, on a night like tonight, I don't think his stat line is one you can pick out and ask, "Why the hell is he playing?"

This.

Long season. Team is obviously still finding itself. The rotation isn't even quite set yet.
Games like this helps you measure where you're good and not so good.
Playing only cupcakes does little to do this....playing the likes of WSU does.
Good experience....it'll help us out overall.

Fair enough.. I was just reading many threads on here last season about how poor he was... and how good the new recruiting class was... He seemed to be pretty out of sync in the offense tonight.. but I guess that was kinda the virus with the team.

I guess I think alot of White/Basabe that I think it would be hard to take either of them out much in a close game.

Would tend to agree that May was not that impressive last 2 years and I was never a huge fan but he was battling nagging injuries and a huge mental block. I'd say he's noticeably improved so far this season and felt he carried the team tonight. He's doing his job as a senior -- leading by example, playing his guts out and accepting his role. So far this season he's one of the most reliable / consistently productive guys relative to what he is capable of bringing to the table.

At this point May is playing better than White or Basabe.

Thanks for the info on May. The last 2 nights were the only games I have seen of the Hawks this year. Super impressed with Mike G.

May being that involved is a bad sign. Someone has to score in basketball and people just dont understand this saying. if you dont get the saying you dont understand basketball. may is not a player you want playing alot of minutes. It means othets are playing poorly or your team in not that good.
