Official Iowa v Drake Game Thread

A couple years ago the Hawks wouldn't have been able to hang in the game with opponent barrages from 3. Have we even made a 3 yet, and we have a good lead.

Drake isn't just getting lucky. Nearly every shot they take has been wide open. Iowa needs to play with more effort on the defensive end of the court.

Mac doing the commentary is bringing back fond memories. They should bring him back once a year for random noncon games.

Iowa missed about 4 or 5 open threes. Just because they're open shots doesn't mean there isn't an element of luck when the go in. A guy who is shooting 33% for his career from three made, like, 4 of 5. That said, you leave a team open from three consistently you leave the door open for another team to have a game where a team can have a hot streak. I doubt they hit 8 threes in the second half, even they're continuously open.

Who is playing well for Iowa?....I can't see the game up here in MN.
Looks like Drake is playing the chucking game pretty good.

Jok, Uthoff, Marble.

Woody, Olaseni, Basabe have combined for 12 points, 11 rebounds, 1 steal. Everyone is playing reasonably well. It's been a team effort.

Does anyone follow their shot anymore? Sure doesn't seem like it. After watching quite a few games today, I can say that this is rarely practiced anymore.

I'd say Marble, Jok, Basabe, and Uthoff are playing pretty well. Iowa's zone defense was extremely ineffective against the 3-ball.

Just because Iowa missed them doesn't mean they're hard shots, it just means Iowa missed them. If everytime you shoot the ball you have five feet of clear space all around you, it's a fairly easy shot. Doesn't mean it will always go in, but your chances greatly increase.

Some of that's by design, especially if you are shooting from the point. If you follow your shot, you open yourself up to a fast break. On the wing? Yeah, you should follow your shot.
