Saw there was a Big 10/ACC challenge prediction thread, but didn't see predicitions for our big game tonight, so thought I'd get it going.

Iowa 82
Notre Dame 71

Iowa bounces back and gets another quality win. Aaron White leads the team in scoring and gets aggressive attacking the rim again. Jok and Uthoff both come in off the bench and hit a couple 3 balls a piece to ignite the big crowd and bust the game open in the 2nd half.
 
The game is closer than we think....Iowa 68, ND 65.....cold shooting by both teams...Brey complains about the damn fog, dogs and cats living together, pure mayhem in Iowa City....
 
I'm getting colder and colder on the Hawks as game time approaches. On paper (per Sagarin, Ken-pom, etc) and on the court, Hawks should win by 10 - 12 points. I figured they would be favored by 9 or 10 (it opened at 8-1/2) but there would be enough Atlantis hangover that they wouldn't cover. Bettors seem to be agreeing because the line just moved to 7-1/2!

Somebody smells something about this game. For me, I'm just getting a feeling (along with too many memories of what seems to happen when the lights get a little brighter) that Hawks will be lethargic and the Domers go crazy from 3, unless ...

... this is the break-out game for Uthoff I expect it to be. Uthoff's done well but mostly against lesser comp. He should have a chip over how soft he played against Nova. Mel was out of sorts vs Nova, too, so, hopefully, he can get comfy back in Carver and set the tone.

I'm going homer and sticking with the Hawks at home, 77 - 71 (but it's gut-wrenching waiting for them to finally take the lead at about 3 minutes left in the game.)

Some other prophecies:
-- They shoot 80+ % from the line.
-- Mel gets 10 and 10.
-- Gabe gets 4 blocks
-- Uthoff is 5 / 8 from 3.
 
First of all, Iowa is the only team in either league with 10 losses in the Challenge series. Iowa also has a 7 game losing streak.

Having said that, I've got Iowa 80 ND 68, because, as bad as Iowa's numbers are, ND has NEVER won a game in the Challenge.
 
Hawks need to run and get the boards. If ND can make this a meat grinder like the Xavier game things could get hairy. Run Forest Run!

Notre Dame can make 3's (43% clip through 6 games) and passes very well (2nd in country in assists per game), but they aren't a good rebounding team. They are pretty young as well with only 2 seniors playing significant minutes. The biggest thing will be to shut down their two main players, Grant and Atkins, who are 1st and 2nd on the team in both scoring and assists. Without a lock down defender like May to guard one of them I'd like to see us play a lot of 3-2 zone to make life more difficult for the two guards. Make them earn the win inside. If we hold their two guar under a combined 30 points I think we win this comfortably, something like 76-60. If we don't stop them it could be a long night especially if ND is hitting 3's. All in all I think we win the game with the end result somewhere in between the two scenarios I laid out.
 
Hawks will lead start to finish, CHA will be rockin. Marble, white and Olesani have big games.
