Official Iowa Hawkeye Baseball Thread

What the heck, they had a good weekend taking 2 of 3 including a win against preseason #21 New Mexico and played a solid game against perrennial power Oklahoma in a 3-1 loss. Nice group of young players with some talent this year. They don't have their own section on the forums here, but might as well at least get one thread dedicated to them at the very least since everything and everyone else seems to have an "Official Thread" around here. As my friend said yesterday after the awful Bbball and wrestling performances over the weekend "we're a baseball school". :D

Go Hawks

Heard Coach Dahmn on the Gym Class a few weeks ago. This team is very young, but not short of talented kids. Should be interesting to keep track of them over the next few months. Would be great to get a good seed in the Big 10 tournament!

I heard they got a pretty good recruiting class coming into this season, after last seasons disappointing finish hopefully they bounce back. Hard to believe their first home game is in 2 1/2 weeks.

I wish they would push softball and baseball more into the summer so could get more TV coverage from BTN.

Well it's great to see there are two other Hawk fans that follow Hawkeye Baseball!

MLB baseball is my favorite sport. I generally make to maybe 5-6 Iowa baseball games a year. It is just at a tough time of year to follow it that much. NCAA bball is going on, and the MLB season starts very soon with Spring Traing going on right now. It is very enjoyable to attend Iowa games to just get out of the house in the spring if the weather is nice.

Iowa is in a near impossible place to field that will ever be a threat to make the college world series. There are just too many things stacked against them.

Yep missed Georgetown in there too. Hard to see them getting Friday's Home game in if we don't get some sunshine out this week in a big way.

Have a buddy the follows Nebraska baseball like a religion. He sent me a picture two weekends ago sitting at Nebraskas home opener. Snow all over the place, but their field was clear. Asked him about it. He said that have water pipes running in their outfield to melt the snow.......so they can play those March games.

As for Iowa, with all fo the snow/rain in the last week or so, Friday is going to be a challenge. I know several high school teams that are supposed to play Spring ball games starting this weekend. Those might be in question too.

Hawks opened B1G play this past weekend at Northwestern. Dropped 2 of 3. All close games with the first game going 13 innings. In the game that they won, Iowa's starter threw a complete game.

Have they had a home game yet? I thought their first home game was cancelled? I need to catch a few games this year. I used to live with some the baseball guys a few years ago and their a fun bunch. Baseball personalities are the best but i'm pretty biased.

One interesting thought I had, the Football team is holding their spring practice on Sunday the same day the Baseball team is having their game against Kansas State at Principal Park to try and draw in some Des Moines crowd to support the baseball team. Not sure how I feel about this. I think if the football team helps promote it at their practice and gets done in time it could help if they send some fans from Valley Stadium over to Principal Park. I assume the baseball game will start about 3:30 or 4 maybe. I know the baseball team had this scheduled ahead of the football practice, not sure it is real respectful to do this same day and run over another program from the U of I if they aren't done by 3 or 3:30 at the practice?

What is the best way to get tix? Just at the Principal park box office or what? TIA!

If you don't make it to the I-Cubs game beforehand, I think the Hawk game might be free actually. The one I-Cub ticket gets you in to both i know, so yeah just principal park for tix.

Ok, gotcha. I thought that may be the case. Thanks!

Well, Dahm officially let go as Iowa Coach. Have no clue who they get now or who will want it. We need someone with a lot of energy. However, as a coach I can relate how frustrating it is if you don't feel like the school is fully behind you with giving you the tools necessary to compete. Barta needs to step up to the plate (pun intended) and invest in the program. To not have their own batting cages they can access at any time is ridiculous. Many high schools in the state have better access to indoor cages than they do.

That's a Dahm shame.
