No. I don't have time to check every thread or follow you.

I'm just used to seeing you praise Baer in every thread -- even ones talking about other players.

I figured the game thread and calling out Jok (which you are right about) that this thread would be the most logical and a consistent place for you to do it.
I like Baer as a player...tonight it didn't work out. Great year for him, however.

Simple fact is that Iowa lost 4 starters from last year and probably ~70% of their scoring and minutes. They were in a full-on rebuild year and somehow almost qualified for the NCAA tournament.

I'm as pissed off as anyone about the lack of effort and passion tonight, but its whatever. I still maintain that Iowa was a terrible call vs minnesota away from being a lock for the tournament.

So if you aren't one of the 4 teams to make it to the college football playoff you're a loser being given a consolation prize?

After all if you don't make the playoff you're the best of the remaining "shitty" teams
Well, if by not being "one of the 4 teams to make it to the college football playoff" you mean being the 70th best team in football (a la NIT), then yes.

The NIT is equivalent to being a 5-7 team in a bowl game no matter how much you twist my words around.

Hey, I can't blame Jok for caring about his pro tryouts. I just don't want him to drag the team down with him. Fran should let him declare an "injury" if he wants, and not play in the NIT games if he's worried about it. Hand the team to the underclassmen and let them run. I'm amazed more NIT teams don't do this. I get loyalty, but c'mon.

If Iowa had won tonight...against a better team, yes, NCAA was possible...but, let's be honest...Iowa isn't top tier yet...lots of improvement needed before that talk can be taken seriously.

Need some talent and quickness at the guard positions.

Fifth-grade math class was a struggle for you when they introduced those tricky fractions, wasn't it?

This team will be better without Jok next year...just the way it is.

I agree with this statement. I think the team was willing to let the senior do his thing. There will be a more sense of team next season.
I think nxt year will be amonster year.

Whaaaaa....????

You have a loser perspective! If you're not winning the NCAA championship then you're a loser. There's some great fans on here that understand that. Only championships matter and they care about that and only that and they prove that by attacking 18-22 year olds and calling for the heads of coaches that can't win championships!!!!

YoU LoSEr!!!

/sarcasm by impersonation

;)
They're you go again putting words in people's mouths. Show me anyone here who said that anything short of winning a championship is a losing effort.

I'll wait...

What many of us did say is that the NIT is an insignificant Scooby snack for teams that suck. I'm sure you graduated high school and can do the math. Making the NIT requires that your team is in the bottom third out of 100 teams. You can literally be the 100th worst team in the nation and get "invited" to this tournament. For a P5 school with a gigantic budget and modern facilities that isn't a goal to shoot for.

I'm not sure how one can compare 4 teams to 68 teams.

I was going off his theory that not making the best tournament means you are a shitty team. Perspective matters.

Also, there are 3 times as many D1 basketball programs as football, and because of AQ's the top 68 teams don't actually make the NCAA tournament.

There are only 100 basketball teams? Huh. You must be in MENSA. Tell me more.

Show me the error of my ways, Dr. Hawking. I promise I won't get embarrassed in front of a bunch of grown men (including you and I) who spend a Thursday night posting to an Internet forum arguing about 18 year olds playing a game.

Are there not 68 teams playing in the tournament? Honestly, if I'm wrong let me have it. You're a PhD, correct?

um...the 100th worst team in the nation means you're in the 200's and wouldnt be invited to the CBI let alone the NIT.

Nobody said the NIT was a goal to shoot for. As you would say: there you go putting words in people's mouths.

Obviously the goal is the NCAA tournament every year, but this team lost 4 senior starters and started 3-4 freshmen all season long. To finish 10-8 in the conference and get 1-2 home games in the NIT is not really something worth being upset about.

To me being satisfied with finishing in the bottom half of the conference and thus not making the NCAA tournament is a defeatist attitude. The entire gist of my posts re: the NIT was that it's not an accomplishment, and by default it's confirmation that among comparable D1 basketball programs your team is below average at best, near the bottom of the barrel at worst. I'm not going to get pumped up about that.

I'm not a "hater" as much as you want to paint me as one. I just think all the "Yay, NIT" people don't see it for what it is.

I think you have to base it on the team. If you're talking last year with 4 senior and 1 junior starters then I would agree. To think that 5 freshmen and 4 sophomores won't benefit greatly from additional practices and do-or-die tournament games is just foolish. Would you rather they declined the NIT invitation?

I don't know of anyone who is "pumped" about the NIT, but its a rebuilding year. If you expected them to make the NCAA tournament this year then you're either completely unrealistic or the biggest homer ever. Iowa had like the 5th youngest team in all of college basketball.

Never expected Iowa to make the tournament for a second. Like I said my main point wasn't about the Hawkeyes or implying they should decline. I had and still have zero expectations out of a bunch of freshman.

I guess I just refuse to look at the NIT as a positive the same as I'd look at the Pinstripe Bowl for a 5-7 football team being a joke. It's a participation trophy that's reserved for underachievers and made up to look like it took some accomplishment to get there, when in reality it was the opposite.

Again its all about expectations. With 6 freshman and 4 sophomores I don't see how a 1/2 seed in the NIT could be anything but positive. Going into the season I expected the Hawks to be up and down and fun to watch. They were exactly that. I thought if they were as good as their star ratings then they could make it to the NIT. Most experts pegged them to finish 12th or worse in the conference.

Don't wait. Just read a little more.

There you go putting words into people's mouths about the goal being the NIT.

Physician, heal thyself.

So what you're really saying is that my perception about what you said is wrong -- I took you out of context. I was mocking the haters and not specifically you since I didn't quote you.

But hey, the dog the howls when you throw a rock into a pack--that's the one you meant to hit. However, you do have a point there since I quoted mopkins who quoted you.

That's like saying the context for this season being a good season because Iowa is the 331st youngest team would be a trip to the NIT.

Context is everything.

You should try it on 18-22 year olds and a coaching staff like you asked for it yourself.
