I think Emery hires McCoy from Denver ... gut feeling ... hopefully he keeps the defense as is

Whoever gets it, will have to be guareenteed enough time to weed out the veterans on the defense. They're ******, and will be hard for any coach to replace Lovie in their minds.

Bears could very well end up with Rashard Mendenhall..........as a Steeler fan I say good luck with that.

Yep. A lot of dudes at my office are super bitter. Anyone with a modicum of football knowledge knows that Mike Tice is a meathead and had no business running that offense. The Bears better hope like hell Lovie doesn't end up back in the division. His players love him and rally around him, you get a guy like that in Detroit with their young nucleus and the Lions might actually make a run.

Keeping the defense as is is not an option, though. They are getting old. The window in the NFL is just too narrow and I think it has passed the Bears by. Urlacher gave it his all before he got hurt, but that guy is a shell of the guy he was when he ran step for step down the field with Reggie Bush in the NFC title game a few years back (probably the greatest football game I will ever attend). Great leader and fan favorite, but the NFL is not kind to LB bodies. And that defense was Lovie. There are a lot of guys on that unit who are average to slightly above average players, but when playing in Lovie's system and for Lovie, they formed a helluva unit. But the Bears are like the Cubs, they can roll out whatever level of crap product and the city will rally around them and season tickets will sell out.

God no. The inevitable attempts to start "I-L-L" "I-N-I" chants would make attendance at Bear games impossible.

Good coordinator, but I don't know I'd consider him an upgrade over Lovie for the Bears head position. No new head coach is going to make a difference unless that line gets a lot better and you have to keep the defense stout so you can win slugfests at home and at Lambeau in December and January. I get that they have to hire an offensive guy after firing a defensive guy, but Ditka and Lovie were two of the most loved guys in Chicago and the fans don't want to see some newfangled offense that requires perfect weather conditions to run. What are your thoughts, bws?

Who ya cheering for tomorrow night? Packers or Vikings?

SKOL!!!!!

I'm pulling for the vikings and I hope it get's incredibly ugly. I'll never forget watching the Packers beat the Bears to get the 6th seed in 2010 and saying to myself that the Bears cost themselves a chance at the Super Bowl by not eliminating them from contention when they had the chance. Then to make it worse, I got to watch that same Packer team beat the Bears in the NFC Championship. I'm still bitter and would love to see the same scenario end Green Bay's season like it did for the Bears.

As much as I despise the Vikings, it will never come close to equalling my hatred for the Packers. After they lost on Sunday and allowed the Vikings to sneak in, eliminating Chicago, it made my hatred grow even more. I hope they lose a nail biter in the closing minutes with a pick 6 Bret Favre style.

Agreed, but at the same time Chicago's fell in love with Cutler, who is anything but the poster child for classy and the fans haven't seemed to mind. IMO regardless of how likable the coach is the only thing that will matter in the eyes of the fans are wins and losses.

Agree. Arians likes using 4 and 5 wr sets with minimum protection, but he is use to having big physical QB(s) that could handle it. This could be a recipe for disaster the way the bears' line is currently constructed. I could see the bears having a setup pretty similar to the Packers and the Saints where the HC is the playcaller and they hire a long time vet d-coordinator and just hand the D off to him and let him run it. Someone like Romeo Crennel comes to mind.

Can Camini be saved?

Some of the best defenses the Bears have ever had were wasted under Lovie. Perhaps he can get it right this time with the Bucs by hiring a decent OC and then keeping his nose out of it.

From the article ...

Smith will bring in former Cal coach Jeff Tedford to be his offensive coordinator, a source confirmed.

The bears signed Cutler to a 7 year deal with $50 million guaranteed. Around $17.9 a year with bonuses according to one source.

They also re-signed Jennings and Slauson. I am happier about both those signings than I am about giving Cutler seven more years.

But only 3 of the years are guaranteed, coincidently the same amount of time left on Trestman's contract.

I think Emery did an exemplary job in quickly rebuilding the offensive line, which was a major weakness before this year. I hope he can work his magic on the defensive side this off season.

I'm not necessarily sold on Trestman either. I don't want my head coach wishing the Packers well in the future. Someone needs to sit him down and explain the nature of this rivalry. Even if Cutler is gone after three years, he walks away with 52 million, which I think is obscene for a QB with his credentials.
