Of all the winnable games left on the schedule, the one Thursday scares me the most..

Nebraska has played pretty decent against some really good teams at home....

Played Wisconsin to a 6 point game
Played Purdue to a 9 point game
Beat NW by 15
Played OSU to a 9 point game
Beat PSU by 14
Played MSU to a 9 point game
Lost to Illinois by 20

So the only double digit loss they have at home was against Illinois. Given the close results of their other games and our penchant for peeing down our leg on the road in crunch time of close games, this one definitely has me worried. I see this one going similar to the PSU game....hopefully the final result is the same, as well.

When I get scared at the idea of playing Nebraska in basketball all hope is lost. Any team can lose on any given night but I'm far from scared. I'm not even worried.

Well, it was only a year ago that we lost to them at home....so yeah, the game this year at their place makes me pretty nervous....

What concerns me most about this game is how well Woody and Gabe are able to deal with Nebby's Andre the Giant. At 6-11, 314 pounds, he is not the fastest guy on the court and he is susceptible to fatigue. But when he's in he knocks other teams' big men around like they are pick-up sticks. He has a knack for backing into opponents under the basket while going for the rebound or put-back; his size and body mass are usually enough to push them out of the way without it making appear he is pushing. He rarely gets called for it.

Seeing Nebby on TV several times this year I also think this will be a very physical game, similar to the way Penn State or Northwestern play because talent-wise they are over-matched. Iowa has struggled with teams that play rough. The Hawks are going to have to not be afraid to drive the lane and draw the hard foul, because that almost certainly will happen. Free throw shooting will be critical Thursday night.

Not "scared" but very nervous / concerned - if that makes any sense.

These final 5 games ARE Iowa's "NCAA tourney" ... except for Indy, lose any one of them and they are out. Take care of business and they've done everything they were supposed to do just to keep hope alive -- and even that doesn't guarantee them a bid.

It's a lot of pressure on a young, marginal team and long-time Iowa fans have seen how that usually goes.

Its on the road, its in the Big 10. Anyone expecting Iowa to just waltz in there in win easily is mistaken. It would be great if that would happen, but expect a dog fight.

This game has me worried as well. Miles is a heck of a coach and he will have his team ready and thinking they can beat Iowa.

I'm 100% worried. This is now a "rivalry" game and I'm sure Nebraska is fully aware what is on the line for Iowa. Unfortunately, I don't see Iowa winning this game. I hope I am wrong.

The weather is going to be nasty here that night. Big snow storm that day into the night. Might keep the stands real empty.

Out of curiosity have the Husker men's BB team been drawing decently in better weather? And are they moved into the new building?

Agree with everything except it's not pressure... they are too young and yet too hungry with the experienced players that include May, Marble, McCabe and Mel.

The Hawkeyes are not a "marginal" team although RPI does make them marginal on paper and with numbers. On the court they are competitive and play with any one.

After tomorrow I will be off the grid until the end of next week...after the Purdue game. Assume I agree with most of what Kelley and Spank post except anything about being worried. I don't worry about basketball games we should win...even if we could lose. Kelley and Spank, don't post anything that will embarrass us...make me regret this post.

This game is no gimmee. That said, I would rather Iowa play a bruising team than a fast team. We match up better against those teams.

We then subsequently beat them by 9 at their place. The loss at home last year struck me as taking them for granted. It was the first year they were in the league. I don't see us looking past NE this year, especially with Gesell now on the team. If we come to play, I like our chances.

Re: Of all the winnable games left on the schedule, the one Thursday scares me the mo

I'm a lot less worried now than what I was before the Minn game. RDM is back and maybe playing his best ball ever. Gessell is playing great as is May, this team is gelling and I like our chances for a victory.

Re: Of all the winnable games left on the schedule, the one Thursday scares me the mo

This Nebraska team reminds me of Fran's first year at Iowa. Play teams hard but still don't quite have the experience in closing out games and getting Ws

Re: Of all the winnable games left on the schedule, the one Thursday scares me the mo

After seeing Nebraska hang in there with the big boys, I am a little concerned with which Iowa team shows up. If it is the one against PSU, Nebraska has a shot. If it is the one from the last 30 minutes Sunday against the Gophers, Iowa should walk. I am expecting somewhere in between with a 6 point Iowa win.

If Iowa can run on Nebraska, they will have a much better chance as Nebraska is very thin. Almeida can only handle short stints, and is prone to reaching fouls. Gallegos was 0-13 against MSU the last game. I don't expect that to happen again. If he or Shields gets hot from 3, they may make it a game. But with Iowa's depth, as long as they come to play, it should be a happy night in Lincoln for the Hawks

Sort of a homecoming for Mike G, as he played a few games on the Devaney Center court during State HS Tourneys. Be interested to see how many of his family and friends make it down for the game.

Also, someone asked ... Nebraska moves to the new arena next year for BB. The Devaney Center is being renovated to become the new home for Volleyball, and will also serve as the venue for Wrestling and Gymnastics.

Re: Of all the winnable games left on the schedule, the one Thursday scares me the mo

If, as has been noted, Nebraska and Iowa get socked with a major winter storm as predicted Thursday night, that could ice attendance and make home court noise and support less of a factor.

Re: Of all the winnable games left on the schedule, the one Thursday scares me the mo

Nervous - yes. On the road in the B1G is always a challenge, but the team is playing well together right now, and just like a shark w/ blood in the water, I think Iowa finds a way to get the 'w' and get the hell out of Lincoln. This team is starting to taste victories through a lot of hard work and relying on each other to get the job done. They are believers of Fran & staff and what they're trying to accomplish. I think (hope rather) that they will be fine...
