OC Needs to Be Relieved Friday @ 6PM

There is zero point in delay from a recruiting and development standpoint. Need to turn the page as quickly as possible. That said, I'm expecting to hear he's getting a 50% raise.

I'd accept 6p TODAY. I don't think there would be any difference whether "he" is in the booth Friday or not. Sort of the "Brick-as-adequate-substitution-for-Homer-Simpson-at-the-nuke-plant" theory.

Can we just have a meet in the middle by Kirk and the rest of humanity and just get Greg Roman as the new OC. Perfect marriage of Kirks philosophies and a little imagination. Please Kirk. Call up Greg, he needs a job.

We should be reminded of what some we're saying after the initial hire...................

"While Texas used spread elements, especially with [Vince] Young and [Colt] McCoy in charge, Davis often stuck to the basics and had a maddening tendency to play it safe in big spots," Bennett wrote on Monday.

Still, three of Davis' quarterbacks — Young, McCoy, and Chris Simms — went on to play in the NFL, and they are three of only five former Texas signal-callers to ever start a game in the league. Five Longhorns won Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year honors under Davis, and three of them were finalists for the Heisman Trophy.

But Bennett argued Davis might not deserve all the credit.

"Davis also benefited from some wildly impressive, blue-chip offensive talent that [head coach Mack] Brown recruited," he wrote. "… To put it simply, Davis' offenses worked when he had a great quarterback and scuffled when they didn't."

ESPN writer (Bennett) - excerpt from article Feb / 2012

P.S. Texas used the spread offense under Young and McCoy. When they switched to a pro style in 2010 their production fell significantly.

Even if you hire a new OC they are going to have to game plan the way Kirk wants it. Tom Hermann is SOOOOOO lucky he did not come to Iowa and got a HC job. He was a gnat's eyelash of sinking into the offensive abyss know as Hawkeye offense.

Time to assign some scapegoats for Iowa' WR problems.

It is time for Davis, Kennedy and Woods to all move on.

I don't necessarily like doing this, but the first presser I remember with Davis, he stated he needs to upgrade the WR talent. He has failed to do that in a monumental fashion. I actually think Woods is a really good recruiter. Let's start with Davis (since we know ferentz isn't going anywhere) and see what happens. SOMETHING needs to change to kickstart our offensive passing game.

Maybe Woods can be spared, but I look at Davis and Kennedy as a package deal. Kennedy was brought in because he had a history with Davis. while Davis sits in the press box, Kennedy is the guy down on the field talking to the QB when the QB comes off the field. Kennedy is the liason between the QB and Davis. And oh yeah, Kennedy is the WR coach.

if Davis leaves, Kennedy needs to go with him.

Is he really the best OC choice? I thought he was replaced as OC by Harbaugh at San Fran, mid season, though not fired, and then he was let go from Buffalo, in season.
He was the scapegoat of what illed the bills even though the Defense was a much bigger issue at the time but the coach was running the defense so Roman got the axe. He wasn't replaced by Harbaugh, that i recall.

I don't know that I said replaced, but if I did that was in error. What I recall is he was demoted when the 49'ers offense hit the wall and someone else was elevated to call the plays. I'm only saying that Roman isn't really an innovative guy in that he's essentially a pro style guy. Our offense needs something different.

Maybe I am being naive I think the bowl game is GD last game as OC. Even with a bowl win I think KF knows it is time to hit the reset button with this offense.

I kind of feel the same. Internally he has to be thinking it with our offensive ranks. We'll see though wth Kirk.
