O-Line Depth

Iowa’s offensive line is top notch. In 2016 they were recognized as the best offensive line in the nation. The younger players who have learned from those linemen are ready to be dominant players themselves.
Uh, have you ever seen Tyler Biadasz play? Our line may coalesce into a quality unit, but there a notch or two short of Wisconsin's right now.

:D

Latrobe, Pa. The home of Arnold Palmer. My grandpa's favorite beer. He would smash a cold one after a shot of Schnapps. Rinse Repeat.

8am is a little late but is that you Gramps??
No but Saw Billy Kilmer
play lots. True tough guy.Like I said. His pass in pro ball unartisic.A winner.

Good stuff Earl.

Billy was not pretty, well maybe except when he was younger, and skinnier. Was a heck of an athlete in his prime.

Threw the ugliest ball ever and was tough as nails. Quite the character but a winner on the field. Some epic battles with the hated Cowboys and that choirboy Staubach.

Did ya know former teammates called him 'Ole Whiskey'?

Sounds like a potential drinking buddy of yours.

Iowa generally recruits by region, so I don't think the coaching changes have adversely affected the OL recruiting, but, there's no doubt that development of the line took a hit when Morgan was moved.

I've posted previously that I haven't seen any evidence whatsoever that Polasek is a good coach. He has had some recruiting success, but, as a coach he seems to be all fire and brimstone in practice with marginal results on game day. I'm willing to give him a pass with all the issues last season, but if we don't see a significant uptick in play by the OL this season, my guess is that the majority of fans will start to give up on him.

Good points. He was such an odd hire with zero experience coaching the line. Why? And as a player how can u respect that?

But it doesn't matter if we give up on him as a line coach. He will probably be OC someday. We gave up on Davis very early on and he was here for 5 years because I suspect KF felt Brian wasn't "ready". It won't take 5 more years before the deck chairs are reshuffled IMO.

I think GD "retired" when White and Kennedy contracts weren't renewed after the Eno Benjamin fiasco/debacle.

BF says he feels good about their top 8. Only concern is the first game that no one gets hurt. But having 8 deep should be good.

Wow, so what you are saying if it wasn't for Eno going public we would be entering the 7th year of the Greg Davis offensive train wreck? And Brian would be languishing still as an O-line coach instead of being just one step away from the Holy Grail?

Not sure if Brian should send a thank you bouquet to Eno or not. I mean he could be Belichik's right hand man by now.

What I can't figure out is if we should be sending thanks or not. My head hurts.

What I do know is our first family of football always comes out on top. They are truly blessed.

I was just citing the timing. After that whole debacle it was probably uncomfortable, at a minimum, for GD to stay with two of his hand-picked assistants having been "not renewed".

I got what you were saying. I agree.

But serious question: Do you think KF's plan was to have GD only around for about 5 years anyway before promoting BF? And do you think it will take 5 years before the next promotion?

Cuz JR was busy plotting the overthrow and honing his playcalling chops on Playstation instead of recruiting and coaching up his boys??

Do I win a prize?
The fall off in OL talent does seem to coincide with the tenure of BF as the OL coach / coordinator.

Howdy Earl. Morgan is a stand up guy and a pretty amazing coach. But the next official o- line coach will be another Ferentz.

I am sure Cap has been coaching up the current coach, which would be ok because the one thing he understands is the line of scrimmage. Maybe it will keep him away from the offensive playbook and fundraising as well.

Earl, what do you think sandlot football was like in the Ferentz backyard? Do you think they actually drew up plays in the dirt? Or do you think they just linked shoulders and moved around the yard like a neverending rugby scrum?

This is neither a rhetorical question, nor an IQ test. I am genuinely curious. This just crossed my mind because I recall KF telling us a few years ago that he needed to stop meddling in the offensive strategy room. This is what excites me the most at the beginning of each season. Maybe this is finally the year.

That was such a joke! It was based on Ferentz reputation for developing offensive lines. They were solid run blocking especially at the end of the year but he whole year Beathards was on his back or running for his life. They even tried Daniels and Welsh at Tackle. I don't even think the line was average at pass blocking.
