The Jets on Monday marked the end – actually, the day after the end – of their three-day rookie mini camp by announcing a series of low-profile roster moves.

They released two players: wide receiver Dwight Jones and center Jacolby Ashworth. And they signed two players: linebacker A.J. Edds (6-4, 256 pounds) and offensive lineman Markus Zusevics (6-5, 300 pounds). Edds is 26 years old, Zusevics 25.

Edds and Zusevics both played at Iowa. They were two of the 37 tryout players whom the Jets brought in for rookie mini camp.

Jets coach Rex Ryan singled out Edds when asked Saturday if any tryout players had impressed him.

“I really like this linebacker from Iowa, Edds,â€￾ Ryan said. “Really a smart guy and he looks like he’s got some physical tools as well, but he’s been sharp. We’ve actually been playing him as a (strong-side) linebacker all through this camp and today during practice we just threw him in at (weak-side linebacker).

“We hadn’t even discussed it and he’s on top of it. He’s able to take, grasp, not just his thing, but see the overall picture of a defense. That’s important because a lot of times, sometimes on that roster, you need guys to play multiple positions, and he’s been impressive that way to me. So, of all the guys, I think he’s really jumped out to me probably more than any of them.â€￾

Maybe this is a stupid question but I'm just a dumb Norwegian so I'll ask it. Why is Edds in a rookie camp when he's not a rookie?

If I remember correctly, Edds tore a ligament in his knee shortly after starting regular practice his first year in the NFL.

Or we could get the real answer. He is in "rookie camp" because the term 'rookie' is not restricted to a first year player. In fact players come from all walks of life, unlike the NCAA where a freshman is a restrictive term, the NFL does not care who is in "rookie" camp as long as they are not on the current roster. In essence, if you are not at least a restricted free agent you may attend.

So "rookie camp" should be called "Rookie and Free Agent Camp", both classes are equal in the eyes of the NFL.

I think Edds would have been a starter somewhere by now if not for his 2 ligament tears. LBs who are good in coverage are like gold.

Miami Dolphins (2010−2011)[edit]
He was expected to contribute immediately as a nickel linebacker due to his strong pass coverage skills at Iowa,[2] but he tore his right anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during the 2010 training camp and was lost for his rookie season.[3] He was waived on September 5, 2011.

New England Patriots (2011)[edit]
Edds was claimed off waivers by the New England Patriots on September 6. He was waived on September 22, but re-signed to the Patriots practice squad on September 24.

Indianapolis Colts (2011−2012)[edit]
On September 28, 2011, he was signed off the Patriots' practice squad by the Indianapolis Colts, reuniting him with friend and former teammate at Iowa Pat Angerer. On July 31, 2012, Edds tore his ACL.[4] He was waived/injured, and was subsequently placed on injured reserve on August 2.

New England Patriots (2013)[edit]
On June 6, 2013, Edds was signed by the New England Patriots. On August 19, 2013, he was released by the Patriots.[5]

New York Jets (2014)[edit]
On May 18, 2014, he was signed by the New York Jets. [6]

Thanks. I guess I was kind of wondering if he has had a real job in this time, where he was living, and other things along that line.does anyone have any insight?
