Sounds like the Phenom East coach loves McCaffery. That team has the # 1 player in 2011 on their team Micheal Gilchrist who just committed Kentucky. Not a bad team to have an "in" with apparently.
 
Great article w/ loads of positive news about Coach Caff. Hard to believe I feel so giddy about Iowa Basketball again! It hasn't even been a full month since he was hired.
 
Good stuff there for sure. Gets you excited about McCaffery.

One line stuck out at me from Pat's piece - "McCaffery met with Brust on Wednesday, but Brust has refused to comment since the coaching change occurred."

There have been numerous articles and quotes from Brust since Lickliter was fired. Ben hasn't refused to comment... maybe just to the ICPC, I guess.

Still a great article, hopefully this is the beginning of the shift we, as fans, have been hoping for.
 
With this type of recruiting effort, and the recent hiring of two quality assistants with more to come, I firmly believe that not only will Caff get us back to where we were...he will take us to that elusive next level that we were looking for when we hired Alford.
 
I would really like to see the coach get in on the good Iowa kids coming up next few years. You can't teach 7'.

Also interesting that Lickliter's assistants wanted to offer scholarships but Lickliter wouldn't let them.

With the coach, Francis, and now Speraw I think Iowa is going to make a lot of contacts with parents and players and that plus the new arena is going to pay dividends in a big way.

I believe we are going to enjoy Iowa BB again in a big way and it won't take long for the crowd to fill Carver again...
 
Every day I can't wait to see what is happening in the world of Iowa basketball. I grew up watching/listening to every game - back to Lute's years. There were a few times this past year that I didn't even know the basketball team played a game. Not to mention turning the game off vs. MN when we couldn't get the ball past half court. It's great to be excited again! Go Hawks.
 
I have said it over and over, successful coaches rebuild quickly. FM knows this. Taking the slow route people keep advocating is a sure fire losing strategy.

Once again this article is more confirmation that Iowa is now joining the rest of the power bb programs in the country again in how they will operate. Sorry,but the lick years will soon be seen as Iowa bb's dark period, I hope.

When you read these comments from Huddleson,it just makes you shake your head. I am really starting to feel sorry for Walthall,Jordan and Cornette, as I think that joining licks staff really might have stunted their careers...and much of the blame for their shortcomings lay directly at Lick's doorstep. Maybe that is harsh,but would love to have a beer with Walthall and get his true impressions of Licks approach to recruiting someday.

Bottom line, moving on was the right move,and right now, I am excited about Fran's approach...can he execute it? I am hopeful he can.
 
I am not sure heating up recruiting is the correct terminology...he is bringing it to a boiling point and I love everything I have been hearing/reading about FM!

Huddelson and Sullivan are both arrogant jerks. Screw those guys. You can get those kids without kissing these guys' butts.

Why make life difficult? You are saying that lick's approach was the better way to go?
I hope Fran does not take your advice. I do not care how arrogant the AAU coaches are, as long as there is no cheating involved , I say kiss all their butts,if that is what it takes.
Were you feeling good about how we did not kiss AAU coaches butts the last three years as you watched the Hawks go 38-58 on the court?

Me? I would rather win games than worry about feeding the egos of AAU coaches. But maybe you feel differently.

Who said anything about kissing butts? It doesn't hurt to have a rapport with these coaches. It's not necessary to jump to the worst conclusion.
