Now that just pisses me the hell off.

The player knows the rules...it was dumb of the player to do that...he knew better and flaunted the rule right in front of the ref. If he gets to the pros he can salute all he wants...NOT in college. No one to blame but himself...Hot dogged one to many times and this time it cost them the game.

Wait till next year when that little salute will get the TD wiped out.

I get tired of people saying things like this, because it's not true. The ONLY time points get wiped off the board is if a player is acting out ON HIS WAY TO THE ENDZONE. If he's high-stepping the last ten yards, shaking the ball, holding it out to the defenders chasing him, leaping/summersaulting for no reason, etc. then points get taken off the board because it was a live ball foul. The salutes, glove-flashing, etc. in the endzone after the score will still be dead-ball fouls, a 15-yard penalty on the PAT.

How can a player know what the rules are? They have no idea what is going to get a flag outside of the blatantly obvious. As mentioned, one Big Ten crew calls the salute, and another Big Ten crew has let all kinds of those things slide. Some crews call the glove-flashing, some don't. For the ticky-tack crap like that, the players have no idea about what's okay and what isn't. That's why this is ridiculous.
