Apologize in advance for misspellings, and a not-so-pretty format. Just wanted to try and summarize ...

On Pitt: Kirk: We did a lot of good things in first quarter. Lots of self-inflicted mistakes
On defense: Kirk: gave up a lot of uncontested big plays
Thought had a better week of practice
Guys are playing hard
Outstanding end to the Pitt game
On LMonroe: Kirk: On defense they have good athletic guys; at end of day last week was different preparation. This team unlike any team we have played. Thinks players have done good job of picking things up the past two days
High-tempo offensive team
Need to play great team defense
On schedule: Last couple of weeks lots of interesting preparation. Important month for us; reminding team of this; including bye week; if have a chance to be decent team lots of work to do
On defense blitzing: Not huge blitz team; don't plan on starting that; have to disguise things; on list of things we have to improve on
Some people live and die by blitz; down side to blitzing too
On offense: Tough prep. Pitt was tough; we did proper pick ups later in game; Vandy put ball where needed to be
Evolution of KMart and Davis: Four weeks ago concerned about that position. Over last 10 days pleased with our receivers; Davis made some plays that as good as going to find; doing a good job in practice
Will help having three guys to go to
On Z Derby: Tight ends not as involved as we would like. We have to use tight end more
Brad Rodgers making progress; may be weeks before he can get back with us; is making progress
Nolan McMillan: first day he has worked with rest of guys; got a lot of work to do to get caught up; good to see him on the field
On Adam Gettis: Really good football player; worked hard; got hurt first week last year. Had excellent Spring; tremendous young guy
Tommy from Des Moines: Why do we take so long to get play into game; and why take QB so long to get play off? Kirk: I don't think it has been a real issue. Don't think we have had delay problems. We signal our plays in. Some players are longer than others; so far so good.
Dolph: What impressed you about Vandy? Kirk: Vandy has things under control; keeps composure; gives good vibe to everyone; think our whole team responded; we dug into quite a hole. Great experience for Vandy; remind ourselves he has really not played that much football at Iowa; it is all going to get better for him
Depth at linebacker: Kirk: Not a lot of depth; hope we don't have to count on any true freshmen. Tyler N should be good to go Saturday
Younger players: Hope they simply learn with experience
On CJ: How is he coming along? Kirk: CJ is a young guy have high hopes for; he is learning; I think he is improving every week; hopefully play prominent role before season is up
On fans leaving early: Kirk: Heard a couple of people left. I might have gone with them (love this comment).
Dolph on fan loyalty: Kirk: When I came here in 1981 great fan support. Always count on Iowa fans on the road as well. We are very fortunate.
Kirk on wearing green: Dolph: Grassroots campaign wearing green. Kirk: I think that is fantastic and I think the entire Greenwood family would appreciate that.
On what took notes of Saturday on your little note pad: what happens each possession

On 2 minute offense: Certainly not opposed to running 2 minute offense; everyone has to be comfortable with QB; we have open mind to it; the high-tempo pace downside if not moving ball your defense will be out there a lot more; if we think it will help us win a game we are open to it
On Pitt coach pulling hamstring: Kirk: Excellent coach and great guy
On running back rotation (mixing up power and speed): Kirk: trying to work towards that. Jason White probably first guy in; plan to get Bullock in for more carries this weekend; got one last week
Development of Guthrie (punter): Kirk: Great example of what makes this sport so neat. Walked in; great family; was a bad punter five years; we kept him around; he has positive energy; maybe two years ago we started to notice improvement; so detailed; everything he does; so focused; we have had lots of great walk on stories; can't say enough great things about him.

nice job, thanks. I really like the comment about Nolan McM being back on the field and mixing up power and speed at the rb position. Good stuff

there weren't many fans that left early, wasn't noticable looking around stadium. Student section always shrinks, partly because they keep packing themselves in tighter toward the bottom rows. Last week, I'm sure some left.

on the hammy question dolph asked Coach Ferentz if he'd ever been hurt on sideline - gave a couple anecdotal stories from the NFL - but said 10 years ago he hurt his hammy ala pitt coach running down one of his kids who was up to 'no good'.

a guy called in asking about Johnson (RB) and asking if he'd get worked in with Coker for a mix of speed/power like we've had in the past. Coach Mentioned Bullock and White as guys behind who are getting work and didn't even mention Johnson.

Wow great job. Thanks. I think Tommy from Des Moines should hire an agent btw.

Tommy was all biz when Coach and Dolph mentioned that they have missed his calls and glad he called in - Tommy responds with a 'yeah' and dives right into the question.

AND, I do think Smoot called in with a blitz question - had to be him! :)

I'd like to know what the deal is with Johnson.

Whats with the first couple callers on the show? Boy they had some really stupid things to say. It must have been Vintage

Thanks for writing it up. Interesting about Johnson. Seems like a good kid, it's hard to imagine why he's so far back on the depth chart.

Interesting about Guthrie. This is his 5th year so how could he have been bad for 5 years? LOL I want to know about Mullings.

My bad ... left off the word "ago." .. I, too, am curious about Mullings.

All I have read about Mullings is he has a slow release. However, he dressed last week so maybe he is gonna be our punter next year.

Blah, blah, blah. What about DJK? Any questions about DJK? What does Kirk think about DJK? What would DJK do?

DJK!

Thanks, I forgot to listen. I was really counting on DeAndre Johnson coming into this year, and he has evidently just not bounced back from the knee issues or something.
Hope White and Bullock can do some damage.

From what I saw in the first game, Johnson is way too skittish. Not scared, just scattered. Even Fred, who could definitely shake and bake, understood the system consistently made the, "one cut and go." Watching Mullings in practice was breathtaking... ly slow. He has a double hitch in his release and didn't look like he was trying to change that.

It's remarkable how they can put him on the radio live for, what, 90 minutes, and he call fill the entire time with vague cliches and banalities.
