I heard once that in order to get a medical red shirt you have to be able to prove you were unable to play at the end of the year. Is that true? And if so, doesn't that mean they can't just not play a healthy player just to get another year?

I don’t think it’s that black and white. Iowa has medical records from Butler’s procedure and with that his need to wear a brace. If he can’t hold the football because of said brace, he likely would get RS. But, it’s the NCAA. Nothing is a given.

Thanks.

I wish we would break out the alternates for this game. Make it a black out for our last night game.
I completely agree. I know this is super Un-Iowa football and may sound stupid, but maybe some alternative uniforms gives this team some energy to come out and compete this weekend. College kids I feel like love these changes in uniforms especially for the one or zero weeks of the year in which Iowa does it. Also, winning Floyd in Kinnick two years ago in the Alternative Uniforms could provide some good memories and just help overall with the atmosphere.

Got to love the NCAA, they'd probably deny their own existence if they were asked to take a position on it. Or at least say they'd need to get back to you.
