North Florida Coach Post - Game Interview with Audio SIAP

Pretty refreshing to see a coach actually make honest, candid comments about his own team or an opponent.

It's as plausible an explanation as any other I've seen. This team just has too many "woe is me" types who can't handle a little adversity.

To be honest I think fran has made them this way. This year he hasn't been as bad but last yr it seemed some of the players were looking over their shoulder afraid to make a mistake because of how he was. Now he isn't doing that same type of coaching but they are still playing that way. Uthoff and gesell are the main ones that I think have been neutered a little by fran and it has affected their game.

The same can be said for the fans (myself included). A little positive energy around this program wouldn't hurt.

His point isn't about negative energy. His point is stop feeling sorry for themselves and do what they're supposed to do.

100%.

This has been my theory all along - they are afraid of making the mistake. Why? Only one plausible reason.

That was very good. Liked what he said to Gabe after the game.

Good point about this team waiting too late in the shot clock to shoot. Fran should let everyone of the players know what their game is and what are their shots if they dont know.

Disagree. Fran is the opposite. He lets players play through mistakes and (particularly) missed shots. He even gets flack for doing so. No, shooting confidence is not Frans issue, it's each player's responsibility. If you listened to coach Driscoll's post game comments, he actually said this. He stated (paraphrasing) "you look at Fran and he's not getting on them, he's letting them shoot; he's encouraging them."

he scouted our team very well. What a great presser. Much better then what Im used too.
I liked all the comments. Spot on.

Seems like a great guy. I bet his players love playing for him.

I think your theory is wrong. They are afraid to make a mistake because they are going to get screamed at if they do. Fran is a bully and that type of coaching doesn't work anymore.

Fairfax, that is the biggest bunch of junk I've ever heard. We clearly are seeing two different things. A bully?! Really?! Wow...just wow.

Do you see this:

Yeah, I saw it. Fran looks at Marble just like my dad looked at me when I screwed up. He looks just like I did when one of my three kids screwed up. This is what parents sometimes do. And, they make it clear that they love their kids, just like Fran loves his players.

doesn't matter. what does matter is this: is it working?

RDM is in the NBA, now. Did Fran help him get there? You'll need to ask RDM.

Well there's this quote from an article on Marble being drafted, but who knows..

Said Marble: "Being in college four years will help me. Coach McCaffery kept all of his promises to me, and I love him."

23, my response was to a post that was insinuating that Fran's methods didn't/don't work. I glad you posted that, though. It reinforces what I (and I presume you) believe and that is Fran's methods do work. Nothing an no one is perfect. But Fran is a damn good coach. I think some of the negativity he is receiving this season is due to some fans frustrations with our football coach. Frustration at football is being released on basketball. Now, this season hasn't been wonderful, but I think many folks are overreacting.
