North Carolina to the Big 10?

And I can't believe nobody has said this yet but this is going to really put the screws to Duke. They're going to end up joining Georgetown & St Johns in that BB only conference soon.

Duke has no one to blame but themselves. They wanted to be a basketball school, they have not put any money into their football program, and nobody cares. They play in a stadium that looks like a FCS facility.

I agree with this. On other Big 10 message boards it's been proposed that the Big 10 should take Duke in addition to UNC. I don't see any way that happens. The Big 10 has very little to gain from that. Go let Duke play in a basketball conference and there FB team can play in a conference with Chattanooga for all I care.

If the Big 10 ends up getting to 16+ members, I give it 8 years before everyone realizes how dumb this realignment mess was and we go back to something normal.

I don't think there is any going back. B10 knows it can't compete with B12, SEC, & PAC16 in football. Those conferences realize it too.

B10 is going to get as many teams as possible, expand their network as much as possible, grasp on to being the new ACC (top BB conference) and pray to God the Rose Bowl still wants their football champion every January. Everything else like national championships, national relevance in football, interregional football games are not even on their radar.

No way they take Duke and neither will the B12 or the SEC.

I am fine with this expansion as long as they go 20 teams, then they can split up into the real Big Ten with the old schools and then the Eastern/Southern 10 schools in different divisions.

This is a pretty good move for the B10. UNC is similar to UCLA in FB. Basically a sleeping giant. BB will help solidify B10 as the best BB conference.

UNC has a better chance to develop in FB than UCLA. When your stadium is like 40 miles from your university, it is hard to get to elite status.

UVA & UNC is the next logical step ... I'd take GT too, then call Swarbrick and make him beg to get ND in.

This is exactly what worries me. Not to go all Mr. Big Ten Homer here, but in my eyes, the Big Ten is the most venerable institution in all of American sports. It actually tries to stick to some semblance of recruiting rules and academic standards and the rivalries are great, the teams, legendary, the fans, save for Wisconsin's, pretty cool to swig some brews with. The conference is essentially throwing decades of tradition out the window in the hopes a new model of content delivery will deliver an ever increasing pot of money. Sanity has gone out the window and I fear we are seeing a big bubble forming here, one that when it bursts will leave Joe Fan worse off than before the bubble formed. The content delivery landscape obviously is markedly different than it was 10 years ago, and the content delivery landscape will look vastly different 10 years from today. I am fine with making these changes provided there is some way to jettison this east coast trash if the model changes and those teams become expendable, but sadly, I fear, we will be stuck with Rutgers and perhaps another crap team we add when this all shakes out.

I suspect you were pretty drunk or getting a hummer when you wrote this but I agree with the sentiment overall.
