Non-Conference Schedule Released; TV and Times TBD

I think at this point in the program a schedule like this is a good thing. They need to go out and win a lot of games, build confidence, be able to work on rotations and such before the meat grinder that is the Big Ten.

Yikes that is a bad non-con schedule. Right off the top, I see losses to UNI, ISU and VT and that would leave no quality wins left on the non-con. Probably throw in another loss they probably shouldn't and Hawks will have to do some damage in a brutal Big Ten to get some help with a poor RPI. But this is this type of schedule this team needs right now. Until they get more talented and improve then they can play tougher non-con, like next season.

I think just the opposite, playing a host of cupcakes doesn't prepare you for the Big10. Also, this team is still a year away from being really good, slipping up against a few of these RPI killers will make it very difficult to make the tourney. That said, beating some of these might still hurt the RPI.

There were 10-11 wins there last year also. How'd that work out? How about we take one game at a time?

Maybe you are being sarcastic and I missed it, but this type of thinking is stupid. We are fans, we can speculate about whatever the hell we want to.

Back to the topic at hand, these discussions are always frustrating because people fail to recognize that there are multiple tiers of cupcakes.

This is a terrible schedule, not because of the 10 or so cupcakes, but because most fall in the bottom third of the RPI. A team like Norfolk State would have been great- and winnable.

This is so dumb it hurts.

Cartwright's injuries were a problem during the heart of the non-conf..basabe's extra weight didn't work out so well.

The team finished well.

This coming team, with so many fresh faces who will factor in (read: true frosh PG and the headaches that ALWAYS come with that, nearly everywhere), they could use some cupcakes to work through the wrinkles.

Yeah we as fans need to keep our minds on the next game because as fans we could screw up the whole year by looking ahead.

In fact why are we talking about this? We are going to screw up the football team.

Why don't you back up your projections for losses with some type of reason. UNI lost a lot, Iowa State lost a lot, and VT was so so. We are much stonger than last year and I really don't see more than 1 loss in these three games which would put the preseason at 11-1. I have respect for those teams but they are not sure losses. I know, we lost Gatens, so? Love the guy but he wasn't a huge game changer until the last 5-6 games. We will be much better than any team in the last 10 years.

VT game is first and only true road game for Iowa during non-con. Iowa is terrible on the road.

ISU is pretty loaded this year. Fred Hoiberg is 2-0 against Iowa. Now, next season they will be very young and inexperienced while Iowa will be more talented and more experienced than them.

UNI always gives Iowa troubles with their lethargic offense and disciplined system under Jacobson. This is a swing game but UNI has been much more successful than Iowa the past few years.

low end projection...1 of 2 in Cancun, 1 of 3 outta ISU,VT, UNI and sweep the home games. thats the worst they will do.

UNI lost a lot? its pretty hard to take you seriously when you say stuff like that. they lost johnny moran who was their 5th leading scorer...they return absolutely everyone else including 2 sophs in tuttle and mitchell who were mvc all-frosh (seth freshman of the year) and three 5th year seniors who have been all-conference and to the sweet 16. they also bring in Matt Bohannon and Chris Olivier who redshirted last year and they both had some pretty good options when it came to college choices.

UNI will be at worst preseason #2 in the MVC if not #1, and they may have the #1 out of conference strength of schedule in the country next year depending on who else they play in the bahamas after louisville and stanford/mizzou.

so yeah, it would have been nice to have finished the contract and get UNI at home this year, but instead its in DSM

If Iowa loses 2 or more games in this noncon schedule it is going to be a really uphill battle to make the NCAA's. Va Tech is probably going to be awful, the Shockers are completely depleted, we don't know what to expect out of ISU. Honestly the only team worth anything that we know about right now is UNI. There is the opportunity for a lot of wins, but I think Iowa is going to need to be 11-7 in the Big 10 to make the dance next year.
