Some of you are gonna get supersticious on me, and tell me that I should just shut up. Which is fine, but I'm not a supersticious kind of guy : ). If you are then you better start knocking on wood for me.
In all seriousness though, I'm pretty pumped we haven't heard of any key contributors suffering major setbacks. Made it all the way through spring camp without anything serious. For some reason that feels like a minor miracle. Injuries have played a major role in the outcome of Iowa's seasons. This team certainly doesn't have enough depth to suffer many of them at a few different positions without seeing a major drop-off.
In my opinion, these are the most important players who must stay healthy for Iowa to remain competitive in the Big 10 this season:
Offense
Scherff/Van Sloten/Blythe
CJF/Hamilton
Rudock/Sokol
KMM (not much depth here in the first place, could be in trouble even without injuries)
Canzeri/Weisman
Defense
C.Davis/Ott/Cooper
Lowery/Lomax
Hitchens/Kirksey (I think Alston actually provides a solid back-up to Morris in the middle)
Meyers at kicker is probably worth mentioning as well.
That's quite a few players, and realistically I'm sure some of them will end up banged up at some point. If they could get away without suffering anything serious I think it could play a huge role in turning this ship around.
