no orange bowl for easter ia

Sinclair Broadcasting Group, which owns KFXA-28 (the local Fox affiliate) and KGAN-2 (the local CBS affiliate), wants to be paid a higher fee for Mediacom to carry the two channels on its cable system.
Mediacom doesn’t want to pay. Their agreement expires on Dec. 31.
The big problem around Iowa City and for much of Eastern Iowa is that the Jan. 5, 2010, Orange Bowl between Iowa and Georgia Tech is on Fox. Additionally, the Feb. 7 Super Bowl is on CBS.

Or Dish Network.

But remember it is FREE over air if you get a digital converter box or whatever those things are that replaced rabbit ears.

Miller said on radio yesterday that Dm was also affected. Anybody know if thats true? I have Direct but it would be great for the bar business.

It is true........cause Sinclair owns KFXA Fox 28, KGAN CBS 2, & KDSM Fox 17!

I blame mediacom for this........I live in Cedar Falls and have CFU - we never have this problem!

My parents have DirecTV in North Central Iowa........and don't have this problem either!

Plus dish is cheaper - do yourself a favor HN and drop mediacom like your HS girl-friend's prom dress!

I dumped Directv last August because I could get Mediacom cable/internet/phone for 29.00 each/month. I don't mind it, but will be switching back to satellite come next August when the rates increase ( I will keep the high speed internet service, it rocks ).

I have OTA signals from KGAN and KFXA so no worries for me, sucks that I can't DVR those stations when they are gone from Mediacom, the wife is more ****** about this than I am, which makes it easier for me to convince her to go back to satellite tv later!

On a side note. Not being able to see KGAN's " Built For Breaking News " commercials and news broadcasts is going to be nice, that is the WORST news station in the area, just a bunch of jokers. CBS syndicate shows will be missed but not Wes Mantooth and the gang

MediaComm is the largest effing joke out there. At least my parents have DirecTV so I'm going back to NE Iowa to watch it.

Wow, I hate Mediacom.

I switched to IMON (here in Cedar Rapids) last year with the whole Big 10 Network fiasco. I have never regretted that decision, and I have to ask...if a small cable tv company like IMON can afford to continue renewing contracts with the local CBS/FOX affiliate without major rate increases, why can't Mediacom? With IMON I get more channels and spend $15 a month less for expanded basic, and their service is 10 times better than Mediacom!

Kind of ironic how the deal conveniently ends before the orange bowl game...I wonder if they are using that as leverage? Can't the FCC step in and act as a mediator? I'm so glad that I have dish, will never switch back to cable.
