This was a stupid story with stupid quotes from Gartner.
Gartner is on the Regents and doesn't know the athletic programs are self-funded then he needs to be Donald Trumped. Good thing the Iowa Cubbies get hand-outs from the Chicago club and the City of DSM because he apparently knows nothing about sports.

Nothing to see here. The DMR is the worst newspaper on the planet. Have not read it in years aside from picking up the sports page the day after Iowa football games.
The only reason I heard about this was because I heard Miller and Deace killing the DMR on Monday morning on the way to work.

There's no mention of it as it's a NON ISSUE. The money doesn't come from taxpayers and that makes it nobody's business, at least as far as the Hawks are concerned.
And further more, you think a member of the Board of Regents would keep his mouth closed before researching why they stay in a hotel the night before a game.
With players living all over the place, it's a lot easier to find trouble. Having the team together 25 miles form the campus in one place is a good thing.
I remember in the late late 70"s and early 80"s when the players were all in dorms, it wasn't too bad. However, it was very noisy late into the evening. As the 80's progressed, let's just say it was tough to get to sleep much before 2:00 AM if you were in a dorm.
Note to Gartner and the rest of these Regents. DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE MAKING A JUDGEMENT.

The program also generates $100 MILLION in revenue for the Iowa City area in ONE year.
It would only be an issue if they housed the players in Missouri for example.
