No Jok at state

I'm also a Roosevelt guy...son was 1 year ahead of Jok during his time at TRHS. I think his attitude will improve when he's with Fran and away from another person currently too heavily involved in his life. If you have inside information like myself you know the person being referenced. The kid needs someone like Fran to show him the (right) way.

I don't put the transfer on Jok...have let it go regardless. Also, this was the worst possible draw for Jok. There was a lot of bad blood due to the transfer. TRHS...especially the coach...never wanted any game more than this one IMO.

You could tell by the coach's comment in the DMR this morning. A not too subtle dig. With Jok, I think Roosevelt would be a state finalist.

AWESOME!

Good job TRHS, any time Valley loses, it's a good thing, and especially sweet here because of Jok's move.

Adults that care about high school rivalries are strange.

That being said, Jok doesn't defend at all on that level. Needs to correct that.

My concern is that he didn't get his team to state. You would think that a high level d1 player could get his team to state, not always, but more often than not. Done on here are calling for him to be our gut that we call on to score next year against teams. There will be a big difference between Indiana, meechigan, msu, Ohio state compared to Roosevelt.

Guess we're in trouble then Uthoff's teams never made it past the first round of state.

I would love to be a mouse in the corner when said guy approaches Fran with thoughts on how to move forward. That isn't going to go anywhere at Iowa. Fran may just burst out laughing.

I agree they are totally different people. Both do like to shoot the 3 ball.

Side Note: I know a lot of the guys that graduated 2 years ago...coached more than a couple. I can't help but wonder if our paths have crossed. Regardless, take care.

Yeah I know who you're talking about. I hope it works out for Jok from an attitude perspective, and I think it will.

But my concern is that said guy will follow him just as closely in college. I gradated a couple years ago and I got to know pete and his brother a bit. Both good basketball players, strange how they are such different people though

I've never understood not playing defense as a good player. When I played, it was a challenge for me to not let my player score, I saw that as important as scoring on them, beating them in offense and D. I've never understood these good players that don't care if someone scores on them.

A lot of players don't understand defense. Look at Iowa last year and how much it has improved this year. Iowa is not in these games this year because of offense, it's been the improved D that has made the difference. Jok's D will improve significantly at Iowa.

I watched Jok at 6'6" guard Woodbury at state last year. Yes, I'm talking Adam Woodbury. It wasn't his primary assignment but the game situation forced Jok to take Adam for a couple of stretches. Jok worked his tail off to get down low. He was using his entire body to get down low on Adam and keep him from backing him down low for an easy score. It was the hardest I've ever seen Jok work on defense.

When Jok gets a coach that won't play him unless he plays defense and has players around him that can handle their share of the overall workload I think he will prove to be an asset on defense. Please note I have also seen Jok get dumb fouls trying to jump over backs rather than getting good position, etc. I think he can be coached and will at the very least hold his own on defense.

I think at times it's also a bit of fear of getting into foul trouble on the defensive end. Face it, with the current team if Pete sits for long periods Valley is in trouble.

Dowling upset a ranked Ankeny team with a UNI recruit. Guess Friedman stinks then too.

FIRE FRAN AND BEN JACOBSEN!!!

No no no, remember I said that a good d1 recruit should typically be good enough to get his team to state. I didn't say it was a requirement or was an all or none deal. Jok and the uni kid can both be great, just surprised me to see his team get knocked out before a state game, a semi final state game, a state final game. Chi lax

My apologies. I meant to reply to the thread and inadvertently quoted you. I wasn't meaning to direct my post at you. My bad.

I've seen Friedman play a couple of times. He's very physical. He's an inside guy but I'm not sure he's big enough to play inside and succeed at UNI. I am curious to see what (if anything) he does at UNI. He's going to be playing for a good coach so I'm sure his game will improve.

I am excited for Peter to arrive at Iowa next summer and begin the arduous journy to becoming a contributing Big Ten bb player.
The good news? He will not be under extreme pressure to be a savior of the team as a frosh.
If he does make it onto the court,he will have earned it. Only time will tell.
