No Coker, No Rogers??

Q. Is 28 carries about the upper reaches for Adam?
COACH FERENTZ: He could have gone 50 today. We’ve got the week off next week, so it’s okay. But obviously we’ve got to get our young guys moving forward here. And I’m not saying he can’t do it. Fred Russell did it and Fred wasn’t as big as Adam. But we can’t bank on one guy. We’ve got to develop and make some progress there.

Jon or anyone care to decipher this? I was shocked that Coker or Rogers didn't see any action. Given our precarious situation at tailback due to all the recent injuries surely KF realizes that he can't pound ARob 28 times a game in the Big Ten.

So is KF saying he should have gotten the back-ups in? Or he isn't satisified with their development and that is why they didn't play?

They didn't play for two reasons:
1. Fear of fumbling - Ferentz said he didnt like our field position in the second half and we were rolling just fine with AROB in the first half.
2. They probably checked with AROB on the sidelines and he told the coaches he's good to go. That his stamina is fine.

With that said we have to develop a 2ND back if we are going to win the rest of our games. I wished we played Rogers because he really got some confidence rolling against Ball State. I would love to have seen him be able to build off that. I'm hoping this bye week gets Rogers and Coker ready to contribute on the bigger stage.

Yeah, I think Kirk wanted to get to the bye week with A-Rob as the bell cow. Rogers and Coker will get most all of the work this week, as the vets rest. He has said as much.

I think we were treading on thin ice even though the score didnt show it. I think KF wanted those kids to see a big game before they were in one.
