No Bassett Decommitted

I’ve predicted these would happen and got ridiculed for it and told I was overly negative.

It’s not negativity it’s reality.

Iowa is cooked and it was a damn good run. This isn’t going to be the last one.

Not surprising at all.

My guess is Taylor was eventually able to sway him. I'll be surprised if he doesn't end up at OSU.

The battle for second just gets a little murkier now.

Is it time for a coaching change??? I don't know, but this decommit is not on the coaching staff. This has more to do with money and the Bassett family. Sounds like they wanted Iowa to bend the rules for them to come and train, but Tom Brands and staff didn't want to go down that road. Old school coaches who are trying to do the right thing and I applaud them if that's the case.

Sounds like the Huskers are in the mix for Bo. After Penn St. and Okie St, could Nebraska displace Iowa as the 3rd best program in the country? They just finished 2nd at the NCAA this year, recruited A.J. Ferrari...

Does not matter if Bo goes to Neb. or Oka. St., Angelo will transfer to Neb. Next year. Penn St. is not in the mix. Iowa will fight for 4th place for a while.

Is it time for a coaching change???
Nope. These transfers/decommits happening everywhere are all about money.

Also, the Brands brothers are the last of their breed who are committed to their alma mater. If nebraska/Penn State/OSU came and knocked on Tom's door saying they'd double his salary he would laugh at 'em. Call me an idiot if you want, I've known him and Terry my whole life and if you know him, where he lives, what he drives...he doesn't live like a guy who makes a million dollars a year from coaching and other income. He doesn't even live like a guy who makes $250K a year. It ain't about money. It's about being born and raised in Iowa, coached from PeeWee through the Olympics by farmers, father figures, teachers, and college coaches all born and raised in Iowa.

Coaches like him don't exist anymore other than Tom and Terry, and so you have the issue number one of recruits going where the money is highest...but you also now have the issue that if you got rid of Tom, where are you going to get a better coach who's willing to come here for the money Iowa can pay? It's a double whammy.

Where is Nebraska getting the money from? Is Warren Buffett the bag man?
Boosters. You'd be surprised who and what comes out of the woodwork when paying athletes is legal. nebraska boosters have LOTS of money and a whole lot more of it than Iowa.

Everyone knows PSU isn't going to be topped, but the fight for 2nd place is pretty rabid.

If you really think about it, wrestling rosters and operations are pretty small. Doesn't take "much" from a group of 30-40 doctor/lawyer/real estate developer alumni to come up with a few million bucks.

I know University of Iowa has a smaller enrollment than most Big Ten schools, but it's bigger than Nebraska. You would think that Iowa has plenty of med & law school alumni to keep up with the Huskers. Does Iowa limit the number of students more than others or is it a lack of population in the state of Iowa when mixed with Iowa St, UNI & Drake? Nebraska only has Creighton, or am I missing someone? Creighton is really just a basketball school.
