No ABC/ESPN Night Games for Iowa This Year

For sure. Unless it's a big time national game like OSU in 06, a night game does nothing for me. A night game against NW on BTN? No thanks

IIRC,
The night game vs NW in 2011 was pretty fun. Card stunt, flyover, veterans salute, exciting game, and (best of all) a Hawkeye victory.

And that was on the BTN.

Not necessarily a bad thing for us "older" types. Games like the 2010 Arizona tilt had me wrecked Sunday morning!

Plus, when we get late-finish games ahead of us, by the time they break in (less of a problem now, since they will usually have it on Classic or ESPNews) we always seem to be down 10 or 14 points.

Cany you really blame them? Iowa does not have any marquee games until maybe the last two of the season and those are not going to be at night.

Depending on where we stand, it's hard to find a game before game 10 that would garner much interest outside of the two respective fan bases, to be sure.

That Arizona game was on the road and started at 9:30 pm Central Time. Night games at Kinnick aren't starting at 9:30 pm.

The older I get the more I prefer 2:30 games.

YESSSSS

It is getting hard to roll out of bed, get crap together and drive 2 hours to Kinnick etc for a 11 AM kick.

And nite games sort of blow unless it is a heavyweight tilt like Penn St in '08, etc

PSU in 2008 was a 2:30 kickoff.

At PSU in 2009 was a primetime kickoff on ABC and it probably is my favorite Iowa game of all time. Definitely top 3.

PSU played night games in Kinnick in 2010 and 2012 only.

Being in Eastern time zone, plus the late entry by ESPN, I was up til 2:30am. I can do that once in a while, but I certainly wouldn't a season full of those.

Plus, with night games, i am antsy as all get-out by 5p, not to say WHERE my stress/excitement level is by game time.

You're right on that, but given how drunk I was and the pics I got emailed to me the next Monday of me "resting my eyes" at halftime, it sure felt like a night game. It was pretty dark when the game ended, IIRC (which I prolly don't on account of all the Yella Bellies I drank before the game).

The ASU game in 2004 was worse because kickoff got delayed. Thankfully, our defense was atrocious that day and I was able to comfortably go to bed before the end of the game because it was never in doubt.

I felt I was "owed" a Hawk TD, so I listened on the yahoo radio feed until the bitter--and I do mean "bitter"--end.

My biggest problem with night games is being antsy all day, waiting for them to happen. With 11am games, I get out of bed ready for football.

11 is a slight bit early, IMO. The old 1:05 starts were perfect. 2:30 isn't bad, either. The occasional night game is good, but I think, down the road, BTN will monopolize those.

I think the major problem with night games is the tailgating aspect. It's common sense for most of us to start the party as soon as we get there for a morning or afternoon game. Night games require a little more finesse.

When I was much younger, Iowa kicked off at 1:30 pm. Man, that was heaven (although the games were rarely televised). 11:00 am is ok; 2:30 pm is better; night games really aren't that great.....

I think Kirk prefers the 11:00 a.m. kickoffs at home - we seem to win a high percentage of those games.

Considering that the quality of your opponent plays a big role in determining what time you play, this wouldn't be surprising. The Ohio States, Michigans, etc. will play more 2:30 and night games because they're good for ratings. Iowa vs. UNI, for example, isn't.
