Mel Kiper just released his top 25 overall players. Along with Nixon, Linderbaum is not on the list, but he is Kiper's #2 center.

10. Daviyon Nixon, DT, Iowa

HT: 6-3 | WT: 305 | Previously: NR

A junior college transfer who made only one start for the Hawkeyes last season, I was waiting to add Nixon to my rankings. I can't wait any longer, though, because he has been one of the most dominant and disruptive players in the country in 2020. Just watch his athleticism on this pick-six. He looks like a tight end running the ball, except he weighs 300 pounds. Nixon has really come into his own this season, racking up 5.5 sacks and 13 tackles for loss. He has some pass-rushing moves from the interior. He has a big wingspan. He's great against the run. Nixon is my new No. 1 defensive tackle.

Dude is a beast. I love watching him play. Big shoes to fill next year. Imagine him and Eppy together.
I wonder if Golston has worked his way into Day 2 conversation. This statement will be blasphemy to some on these boards, but he was every bit as good in Year 5 as AJE was in Year 3 ... And arguably will be better prepared from day one to contribute in the NFL (given he spent two more years in the weight room).

I would love it if my Falcons take either Nixon or Linderbaum.... although I am still holding out hope that Linderbaum stays at Iowa for another year

I have a ton of respect for Nixon. The fact he got an offer from the best program in the nation and yet stuck w/ his commitment to Iowa. That is a huge statement to his character. It’s appearing like his decision will not disappoint when it come to his pay day on draft day. Couldn’t be happier for the guy.

Some college players just love the college game and want to play and extra year with their teammates. Nixon should go after his long journey but Linderbaum might stay.

If Linderbaum is highly rated right now with the pros but wants to take out an injury insurance package for let's say $3 or 4 million then he has his bases covered. He is so quick with the great feet that he should have a really good career but he may want to play at Iowa another year.

I don’t know, OL is by far and away the most injured position in the pros, and the clock is ticking. Why take out a $3-4 million insurance policy when he can probably make $20-30 million after 4 years and start healthy?

Scherff has made $48 million in five years. If you’re a healthy O-lineman and you’re pretty sure you can go in rounds one or two you’d be a fool not to

No doubt about it... Even if you're not a top 3rd round pick if you think you have a NFL future I see this part of the argument tough to debate against and that's this. You want to start you're NFL clock ASAP to get to the 2nd contract. That's where the big money is especially if you're not a higher pick.

The reason you stay is to raise your stock obviously and is that worth it or not? And risking injury by doing so and all that. To me if I'm a 3rd round pick or higher I go I don't think I try coming back to raise my stock (depending on my position if I'm a Qb that's different)

To me everyone has a limited amount of snaps/reps in them with this game. Between practices and games. The more of them you can be paid for doing them the better. These NFL careers are short so if you can get to your 2nd contract by the age of 25/26 that extra yr can make a difference.

The lower round guys and undrafted FAs is more of a coinflip. Like Geno Stone I wonder if he's been rethinking what he did or not. I think he was cut and on practice squad most of yr so far. Far be it for me to say staying is the better option but if the potential to go in the 3rd or 4th round is there instead of the 7th that has some more guaranteed $ (not lifechanging $ but still) on the table.

Obviously I knew Nixon was really good from watching him but my eyes still kind of popped out of my head when I read that. I read his list earlier in hopes of seeing Linderbaum and then saw Nixon and was like, WOW!

Yep. I was scared shitless for George Kittle to stay healthy his first 3 years. He was pulling in a half million dollars as one of the top offensive players in the league while my QB (Vikes fan) was getting $26M a year to throw INTs and lose ballgames.

Now if Kittle god forbid blows a knee out or pops an achilles he's at the very least guaranteed $40M and his contract with incentives is worth $79M.

George is a perfect example of why they need to give rookies the option in year 2 to shop around. If they're gonna F 'em over with a shit contract and they start playing out of their minds they need to have some recourse.

Yeah that's the result of the slotted contracts now how they are. I think Sam Bradford was one of the last to benefit from back when they weren't that way. He got a huge monster deal before putting a pro helmet on. Now it's more down to earth but if you're a low round guy that out performs your rookie deal the team gets to exploit you for 4/5 yrs if they want. Till they have to franchise tag you or resign you.

Desmond King should be coming up next I would think. He (predictably) outperformed his draft spot too so hope he stays healthy so he can cash in.

I don't think his twitter complaining about PT did him any favors.
True but that staff for the Chargers aren't going to be there much longer they stink. If he doesn't ruffle any feathers in Nashville and keeps playing well he'll get offered a good deal. That stuff is overlooked if you play well. The modern slot corner position has significant value and he's right up there with the best of em
