So it's still 6 days out however it looks like Iowa is caught in a stalled out weather pattern until at least mid next week. Weather.com is predicting Saturday will be Sunny with a high of 90. I know we have had season openers in the 80s before but can anybody remember a 90 degree season opener? It could be a stinky, sweaty day at Kinnick next week.

Well I for one am planning on drinking a lot of water this week to hydrate myself for Saturday, because beer, while refreshing contains alcohol and that dehydrates you.

Ball St 2005 was 91 degrees. ColoradoHawkeye provided this info below in a different thread a couple of days ago.

Nonetheless, I remember a few others being super hot, so I looked up all Aug/Sept games from 1979-2012...while there were many in the 70`degree and high 60s, most it seemed werehigh 70s/low80s. The highest in IC according to Farmer's Almanac was 92 degrees in 1999 vs Nebby (we lost 7-42). There were only 3 others that were above 90 degrees, 9/17/88 vs Colorado (we lost 21-24), 9/12/98 vs ISU (we lost 9-27), and 9/3/05 vs Ball State (we won 56-0).

I didn't look at temps of any away games other than ISU, and as it turns, the hottest 2 games we played in the state of Iowa were in Lames....9/10/83 (we won 51-10) it was 96 degrees high in lames....9/10/05 (we lost 3-23) in 94 degree heat.

The current forecast from the National Weather Service is 91 for Saturday. That is cooler than what models were suggesting a couple of days ago, but still very hot for football.

Late game when it's hot means more drunkies. I hope we win or it could be a big hungover mess.

The University of Iowa should really look at moving home season openers to night starts. More times than not it is blazing *** hot Labor Day weekend in Iowa City.

11 AM starts would also be better than 2:30 starts. Hottest part of these days is around 4 PM.

There have been some hot openers and early games over the last 20 years.

My son and I were in Arrowhead for that 2000 game against Kan St and as someone said it was really hot. And as I remember it was about as hot as any football game I have been at.

Look for huge gains running the ball late in the third quarter and into the fourth quarter as Iowa's offensive line wears down NIU's defensive line.

I went to the Baylor-TCU game on September 3, 2011. It was 102 that day and still over 90 at kickoff at 7. No matter how good the game is, and the game was great that day, it is hard to have fun when you are jammed next to that many people with the sun shooting straight into your face at that temperature.

I disagree about the 11am starts. At 11, the entire stadium is in the sun and it will be hot for the entire game. With a 2:30 start, most of the west and south side are in the shade.

When I get hot, I get real bitchy. Stay away from the south end zone. I'm warning you now.

Oh boy. Bince we sit in the same section, I feel like I should wear a helmet. However, I think it may be a little too warm for that. Dilemma dilemma.

Like I touched on elsewhere...Hope everyone wears deodorant AND antiperspirant, and pee's before they sit down, so they don't put out some garlic or hotsauce smelling sweat! Kinnick will be an oven.

You can put on as much deoderant as you want, it won't matter. That hot with that many people that close together it is going to stink. Hopefully the Hawks win big so nobody will care.

Just take it easy on the binge drinking, Im all for having a few (or more) but with temps like this it can get dangerous.

Binge drinking? What other kind of drinking is there?

The hottest I have ever been in my life was the Iowa/KSU opener at Arrowhead ... I think that was in 2000
