NIT Game is SOLD OUT

IOWA-INDIANA STATE GAME SOLD OUT

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa Department of Athletics has announced that tonight’s Indiana State at Iowa first-round NIT game is sold out. Tipoff is set for 6:03 p.m. (CT) on Mediacom Court at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

Tonight’s attendance of 15,400 will be the largest attended NIT game on campus since Creighton hosted Kentucky in the second round in 2009 (16,984). This will be Iowa’s fifth sellout of the season (Indiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Indiana State). The five sellouts are the most at Iowa in a season for since the 2005-06 campaign had five.

Fans not in attendance tonight can watch the game on ESPN2 (HD).

How much of it has to do with the fact it's an NIT game or the fact ticket prices are $15 for adults and $5 for kids?

Cheap tickets and the 6 oclock start time. Since the kids tickets are only $5 you will see a lot of families at the game tonight, cheap and still get the kiddies to bed at a decent time.

This is awesome. Wish I could go. I want to see crazy, wide-eyed maniacal fans, yelling out of anger at the other teams audacity for trying to take Carver!

Not to mention maybe the last home game for May again. Last year's NIT crowd was great, lots of kids in attendance, it was loud and a lot stood the whole time, unlike some of the season ticket holders who think it's social hour.

and rush to get out the door after the last TV timeout.

I'm hoping Stony Brook and St. Johns pull off upsets and we have 2 more home games. Would like to go to one more game this year.

Wish I could be there, i have to tend to sheeps

If they are losing money on each ticket, it's OK...they'll make it up on volume.

The only way they lose money on a ticket is by not selling it (to a certain extent) - obviously selling tickets at $5 a pop would net them around $75k, so that would be probably a loss.
But even at $15/ticket they are making money depending on the NIT bid.

I have no doubt they are making coin on each sale.

But, Mr. Spank, you did get the humor...right?

Don't underestimate extra concession sales by extra bodies inside as well.
