Nick Jackson waiver approved

If we could pay enough to bring everyone back who's eligible, then get another good wide receiver, we could be legit good next year assuming Kirk doesn't botch the OC hire.

Huge huge news... I saw that Jay Higgins dad on Twitter all but said he told his him he should come back. This D will be pretty dang salty again if the band is coming back together again. Only Lee and maybe DeJean won't be back is all....

I hope Hawk fans aren't getting their hopes up too much on DeJean coming back. I think logic will prevail with him much like when TJ Hockenson had similar decision. It's just tough to turn down being a 1st round draft pick. I don't think coming back would prop him up 10 spots in the draft or anything like that. I think he's a top 15 pick at worst now and if a team falls in love with him top 10 easy. But we'll see soon enough I can't see these guys sitting on these decisions a whole lot longer.

The rookie money was way different back then, but Gallery could have been a late rounder, came back, bet on himself, and got a generational wealth contract. Peyton Manning put off being the number 1 pick for a year to chase college glory. It happens now and then. Not often.

Look, if Coop was my kid I would tell him to declare, but if he looked me in the eye and said I have unfinished business at Iowa, I would not argue too long with him.

Aside, I drove home through Coop's home town yesterday. Said a prayer to the football god's for him.

IF Castro comes back, and Higgins and Jackson both decide to come back, we already have YaYa Black coming back. Maybe Coop decides he wants to run it back. I know it's wishful thinking. But if somehow it happened, wow! DeJean is a different breed. While going to the NFL makes all the sense in the world, I could totally see him wanting to be a Hawkeye one more year with his guys. Guess we will see.

I think if we figure out things on offense, and had even an average offense. You bring back all the aforementioned guys on defense, this team could be super special. Time will tell.

I know I'd guarantee Cooper starts both ways if he came back. That opens the door to a Heisman like season. A big positive story for the old Hawkeyes.

Seems that this retention strategy is front and center for the coaches and the collective this year. It makes sense. I don't look for the O to be a whole not better with a new OC, and I doubt Cade will stay healthy.

Did anyone else see the pic on X of Coop and his brothers in matching pajamas from the weekend? It was cute! But he looks awfully young, especially to be heading to the NFL.

He's ended the last two season injured. I'd think an injury free year on a great D would be a great way to go out. But, then another injury could hurt his earning pwer.

Yeah the injury aspect of football is just a gamble no matter what. Any given play can sideline a guy for a yr. Those guys just can't hardly play scared unless they have underlining injury concerns already and as you mentioned he kinda has a history now. As much as I'd love to see him kick ass for us again next yr the logic says he should go cash 1st round NFL $ and get his clock started towards his 2nd contract while he can.

But he doesn't seem to be driven by money. Like at all. So there might be a chance he decides to come back. And man that'd sure be something if he did

Evans will be a loss as well, but we have depth on the D Line

Ah yes I forgot about him. I'm sure he's done too. Yeah Dline is pretty much the deepest group we have. Well besides RB room if they all return that's a crowded room atm. And TEs that's a deep room too if Lachey and or All come back. I have a feeling Lachey will but we'll see.

At the time I wonder if Peyton regretted that decision. He didn't beat Florida, didn't win the natty, didn't win the Heisman, and Ryan Leafs stock steadily rose during the season to the point where many NFL teams had leaf dead even or graded slightly higher.

Indy did their homework. Thwy asked both QB's how they would react to being drafted #1 overall. Manning said he would immediately dive into the team playback. Leaf said he would go party in Vegas.

In this specific case it was a pretty good synopsis of where their individual careers would eventually end up. And a big reason why so many highly drafted Qb's crash and burn.

If Coop runs it back I don't want any phantom fair catch signals this time!

Let's hope we never have to deal with that ever again! It's wishful thinking for him to return. But I will hold out hope til he makes his decision. It's fun. But I will say DeJean is small town Iowa kid, and cut from a different cloth. He loves being a Hawkeye (as we see is evident by many current players). You just never know.

Teddy made an interest comment of using Coop on both sides of the ball. Interesting as in this could potentially even make his stock rise higher. But I think most scouts know how versatile he is. This will be fun to watch. I'm good with whatever he decides, but damn, if he comes back, wow!! This defense could be even more special.

You're right. I think Hurkett can step in and got a lot of quality reps and showed he is very capable to replacing Evans. I think Graves is gonna be a beast. He just reminds me of Jared Devries for some reason. Hawkeyes have used that rotation on the defensive line for a few years now and had measured success. We have plenty of studs ready to go. Ya Ya Black in the middle to anchor will help.

They think they know, but the haven't seen him do it. Then it becomes real.

Cooper is straight up our biggest playmaker with the ball. I've known a lot of ex-football players and to a man they way WR is the easiest position to learn. Even easier if it isn't a every down kind of receiver so they don't need to learn every aspect of the position.

Oh I don’t know. Seems to me with a broken leg he would want to play one more year to show the NFL that he is 100% and hasn’t lost a step.

Since we are on the subject of DeJean, I also wonder if he will transition to safety in the NFL. Not saying he is not able to, but we have seen a few of our cornerbacks have to make that change.

And does he get some run in potential Heisman hype if he comes back? I don't think he is the type of kid that is about personal accolades, but to be a small town kid, make it to be a Hawkeye, and now a potential top 20 pick, being included in potential Heisman talk would be very cool.
