I'm excited about White. The Hawks have legit D1 talent on the roster now. White was a total sleeper recruit and underrated. The guy is going to be great. He might be the best guy on the team right now as a true frosh. He'll need to get a little stronger to finish better down low but his game is going to be the best we've seen in several years.

Nice to score 96 and win by more than 40 when the most veteran backcourt in the Big Ten combined for 9 points and only had to play 31 minutes combined, and the fact that the team missed 18 three point shots

White was very impressive but must stress it was against the worst team in the country! Free throw shooting was really good. But still struggle with 3's and our interior and transition defense was gawd awful! That is going to be a huge problem against every team from here on out. Chicago State looked like UNC with that defense. Still struggle to find a pure scorer. Hate to say it but Hubbard was that guy. Good win to grow on but people need to really temper expectations. Could be a lot of the same this year. Not 20 loses but pushing .500 is a little too much. Makes next season's class even more important. That class adds pieces that we will struggle with this season. Really could use Woodbury this season.
All in all, nice confidence builder but a ton of things to improve on. Also see Basabe was 8-8 from FT line. Nice stat.

Hate to say it, but you have no idea if he was or not. He was 6-3 tops, and had done well for a year at the Juco level.

He was a slasher/scorer. Fran and others had even stated this. PTL he proved this. We don't have one of those on this team right now.

You are going to eat your words Ryno. This team will improve immensely as the season goes along. Iowa now has some fore power they did not have before. Keep in mind Iowa had an off shooting night from 3.
Also liked that Olaseni was making free throws tonight. That is a real positive, if he can keep it up. The feel of the game changed for the good when White came on the court in the first half, imo. Up to that point, the Hawks were dancing around a 10 point lead. He came in and got the ball rolling.

I hope so! Still scored 90+ points with Gatens and Cartwright having bad nights. Good to see others step up.

I want to be excited about this win but this team we played is horrible. A bad Drake team destroyed them last year, among other bad teams. The only thing we can take from this is that we're 1-0. I'll take it though.
Our first decent test doesn't come until we play Creighton (assuming we got the losing to "cupcake" teams thing out of the way from the last few years).

Good grief, we know Iowa beat a bad team, and no one here is saying Hawks are going to the NCAA tournament. Some Iowa fans would complain if they were hung with a new rope.

PTL is a joke guys, seriously, you ever watch that crap? It is good for them to get their feet back under them but that is not basketball, it is more like playground basketball.
Have I mentioned how much I love Aaron White yet?
This game was less competitive than a PTL game. PTL has better players than Chicago State.

Ryno, last year we lost to friggin South Dakota State at home BY TEN FRIGGIN POINTS! I will take the opening win, let's toast to being undefeated for the first time since......heck I can't remember.

Jon, I posted the good things but also what was lacking (after one game). It's good there are things that need to be improved on because if that was as good as Iowa was going to get, we'd be in trouble.
Just like in football, I absolutely hate getting inflated expectations about teams/players before playing to comparable competition.
With that said, loved White's confidence and swagger. Hope he keeps it up even when it's an off night. Keep it consistent. Mel was a stud then a dud some nights and his swagger went with it.
Iowa still won by 40 with Cartwright only scoring 2 points and 4 turnovers and Gatens non existent. Nice to see team step up.
