nice counter play by Sparty for first TD-why not Iowa

I was a very simple, almost single-wing or wing-T type reverse-counter action. the straight power run was toward right guard/tackle and the eventual runner was in motion to that side but he just switched directions and took a pitch from QB to sweep to left side for wide open running TD. Counter plays, Even though we won big last week I still think we need more counter play action and new sneaky plays.

YOu can do that type of stuff when you have two running backs in the backfield at the same time or a good running slot type receiver/flanker.

I was wondering why a quick hitter to the full back would not have had some success against Sparty. I think the OLine can get on their blocks but just could not keep them for very long. Holes open and close. But we rarely see that.

Wonder if we'll see the creativity in the next two games that we saw at Ohio State.

I agree 100% and have wondered why we don't see counter action. I remember in High School we had great success when we ran the Wing back counter out of the Wing T. Incidentally, this type of play run out of the Split T resulted in Iowa's longest play from Scrimmage in the 1954 Purdue game. Eddie Vincent went from right to left and received the inside QB exchange from Jerry Reichow and was in the clear after 10 yards. He was literally South Bound and down running up the east sidelines 96 yards...Since Eddie passed away last year, we ought to name it the Eddie Vincent Play.
