An early look at next year's roster and my overall team expectations:

Potential starters:

Point: Payne
Shooting Guard: Tucker
Small Forward: Gatens
Power Forward: Fuller
Center: Cole

Bench (in order of predicted playing time):
Eric May
Brust
Larson
Cougill
Marble
McCabe

Overall wins: 17
Big 10 wins: 8 regular season, 1 BT Tourney game
Postseason: NIT

I will disagree.

Potential starters:

Point: Payne
Shooting Guard: Brust (Scorer is needed)
Small Forward: Gatens
Power Forward: Fuller
Center: Larson (Size is needed)

Bench (in order of predicted playing time):
Eric May
Cole
McCabe
Tucker
Cougill
Marble

I'm not ready to make my predictions on records and such next year, but I do feel comfortable with the starters and bench.

The best thing I see about next year regardless of who starts is the fact we are going to be deeper and should have some nice competition within practices to go right along with the game time experiences, especially when you consider Brommer, Lickliter, and Neari aren't on the lists above but will continue to compete as well.

I think you're confusing "size" with "height"...when it comes to Cole v Larson...so here's my "way too early 2010-11 lineup":

PG Payne
SG Gatens
SF Fuller
PF Larson
C Cole

With a much needed much deeper bench, giving Iowa something it hasn't had in a LONG time...a hockey line shift type of substitution pattern, if needed, with:

Brust
Tucker
May
Marble
McCabe
Cougill
Lil Lick

For those that appear to be still expecting Brommer to either transfer or suddenly disappear from the rotation all together, I wouldn't write this young man off quite yet. He will only get better as Rusty continues to strengthen him up and the agility drills, etc already seem to be paying off a bit more on the defensive end of the court as well which gives him a chance to stay out of foul trouble (something that has plagued him a bit in the past)

This is kinda like the car companies advertising the 2011 models already.

There's a football season in between now and then. Baseball for that matter.

Is Archie leaving the team?

I don't believe so, I think he has been left off simply because he is red-shirting this season now after his collar bone injury and sort of became "out of sight, out of mind" but I do believe he will be here for another two years.

I'm not sure a starting lineup will matter much next year or really even be set for that matter. One thing I do know is that Payne, May, Gattens, Fuller, Cole and Brust will be hard to keep off the floor.

Add to them
Archie, Cougill, Brommer and Larson, McCabe as bigs competing for minutes
Tucker, Marble competeing for minutes at the 1-3 spots and we will have
some spirited competition with more depth, talent and experience than we have had in a few years.

I am excited about that propisition.

To me it is pretty simple. We still will need help at PG. Even with Tucker back the UNI game proved he can't significantly help at the PG position. Payne will get better but he is very overmatched at times, especially on defense. Can Brust improve the defense at the position and create for his teammates? Maybe but I don't think it is likely.

I think we need at least one person to transfer or Tucker not come back and get some help at the PG position. We have to improve the defense and quickness at that position. I am not writing Cully off by any means, I just think he would be more effective playing 20-25 minutes a game.

NOTE: Eric May will certainly be on the floor. How does the best athlete, with the most potential of anyone named in this thread, not get the most minutes?

May is the best defender, the best athlete, the most strength and possibly the fastest player on Iowa's roster.

Three certainties: Fuller, Gatens, May will start. Two probabilities: Cole and Payne likely will be the other two, unless a juco or two are added this Spring--and even then hard to see anyone coming in playing ahead of Cole. One prediction: while there will be major contributions from Larsen and Brust, the incoming freshman that will be the biggest difference-maker will be McCabe.

Marble seems to be the one out of them all who has exceeded expectations this year. It will be interesting to see how this translates into productivity next season at Iowa! I am excited about all four of them! Just think how good the class would be if Lick could recruit???

With the players coming in and the development of May, he will play a much better Bawinkel role. If he comes back this year he might start but I doubt he does next year. I still think he is a reserve the rest of his career. It wouldn't bother me much if he left the program in time for us to find a replacement.

I don't think he's that good of a player, especially on defense. He doesn't "get after it" enough to play in Lick's system. We can't have a weak defensive play in this system.
