Next year

An early look at next years win/loss total

Illinois State - W
@ISU - L (We won't win in Ames)
Pittsburgh - W (New Coach)
North Texas - W (Payback for all the times McCarney won at ISU)
@ Wisconsin - L (Nothing to see here. It will be U-G-L-Y)
Illinois - W (Only because it's a home game)
@NW - L (Fitzgerald out coaches Ferentz - AGAIN)
Bye Week - Fanbase gets a week off to recover before the wheels completely fall off
Maryland - L (After this year is there a question?)
@Indiana - L (Chance for a road win - Nope)
Minnesota - L (Do you see a pattern developing?)
Purdue - W (Only because it's at Kinnick)
@Nebraska - L (No chance to win in Lincoln)

So that makes 2015 a season of 5-7.

If 7-5 was unacceptable what will Barta do when it gets worse???

Just too early to call that just yet... If CJ stays and is the starter I lean against that bad of a run... Now if he leaves and say JR is the man and say he gets hurt at some point (he will get nicked up if not worse) I can see the sky falling. I don't see the defense being much better next year and you'd think it'd have no where to go but up. So it'll be on the offense to put points up and that won't happen well enough with Rudock... And I like the kid.

I can get to 7-5. Iowa can win Ames, although I still see it being close which is sad. I also have Iowa beating NW, although that isn't a lock by any means. Bottom line is with another manageable schedule, I see Iowa losing nearly half their games.

I wouldn't be so quick to chalk up Illinois St. as a win. That team is a lot better than UNI and has Tre Roberson at quarterback. That's an easy game to see Iowa losing.

With respect to ISU it will be a hard game for Iowa not only because its in Ames but their offense is going to be pretty good they made giant steps forward this year losing their best playmaker Bundrage who will be back next year. Richardson will put a lot of pressure on Iowa's linebackers running and throwing and Iowa will have a hard time matching up against Bundrage, Lazard and Montgomery who is 6'4" as well and really came on at the last half of the season.

ISU's defense was a dumpster fire due to injuries and the kids kicked off before the season started at DT when it was too late to bring others in. But keep in mind the defense played well not only against Iowa but KSU the 2nd game of the year even without Coe & Irving in the middle(the hardest spot to recruit). ISU will have about 4-5 JUCOs competing for time at DT, 2 were hurt this year and redshirted and 2 new ones come in that good division 1 programs were recruiting. One of them at DT was JUCO defensive player of the year. They won't be great but defense could be a lot better than it was this year.

ISU at best is probably looking at 6 maybe 7 wins tops(maybe 4-5) but its always a tough game for Iowa.

I can get excited about Iowa next year if he starts CJB, if he doesn't next year will be the most apathetic I have ever been towards an Iowa season. If he starts Rudock, I don't think I will even pay attention unless they are 4-1 or 5-0 and a win over Wisconsin is a must. Beating Wisconsin is more important than a loss to ISU.

Good God, are people STILL on the "if CJ stays" deal?

I hate to say it but 1-3 pre B1G could easily happen. I might be able to rationalize 5-3 B1G but that is a big IF.

Next season looks a lot like 6-6 followed by a bowl loss to go 6-7.
