Next Year

The magic bullet is called health. You can't lose that many linebackers and not have it hurt the special teams.

and I think rebuild is a strong word to use when talking about the d-line. They'll return two players who have started and played a lot.

And what's wth the "we should bring back...?" You know something I don't?

Ummm, aside from the rumors about suspensions, you have issues of health, academics, etc that could come up before the start of next season. Could you have predicted that by the time bowl season came around, two of our running backs would have missed the whole season and transferred, and that our other starter would be suspended, and that we'd be starting a freshman who was injured preseason?

I also haven't taken into account any juniors that decide to leave the team, such as Sash, McNutt, etc.

McNutt has already stated that he is coming back. Sash on the other hand is up in the air. I personally think he needs another year, but he is 23 yrs old and has had some shoulder issues, so he might make the choice to get paid now, rather than wait another year.

I did not know about McNutt, so I withdraw his name from the list. And again, I'm not trying to insinuate anything with regard to Iowa's roster next year. Just that with all the crap that's been going on, and considering how early in the off-season we are (so early, that it isn't even the off season yet), it's to early to tell how the roster will look week 1 of the 2011 campaign.

Yes, of course you're right that if we have a bunch of injuries that our record would indicate that.

Sash is probably a difference of 1-2 wins by himself.

It's also conceivable that they stay completely healthy all year and win 10 games. The truth will be somewhere in between 6-10 with health determining where they fall within that range.

And tell me you aren't one of those people still waiting for that shoe to drop on those suspensions.

Not waiting no. Really hoping it doesn't happen, but at the same time, knowing my luck with the teams I support, I wouldn't be surprised.

But personally, injuries, transfers/NFL draft and academic issues are all more likely to occur before further suspensions stemming from the whole DJK drug incident.

Here are the units where we have depth- oline, corner, tight end, quarterback, safety.
Here are the units where we do not have depth (or it at least unproven)- dline, linebacker, tailback, fullback, wide receiver.

I think units in the last list with potential are dline, linebacker, and fullback. I am nervous we are very thin at tailback and receiver. It is possible we could be thin at safety as I am assuming Sash is gone. I am planning on doing an in depth article on the offense, defense and special teams units soon.

I hope we are recruiting more linebackers, more receivers, and more tailbacks. I am not up on recruiting because I don't worry about it until signing day. I know we have several guys committed right now that could impact from day one- Grant, Campbell, and possibly Duzey as a receiver but I think he will end up at either TE or DE. If we land Coe that would be nice.

Well the one thing we have going for us next year is that expectations are much lower than they were this year, so maybe the Hawks can surprise a team or two next year. I say 9-3 and ready to make a Big Ten title run in 2012.

If this is how you feel, why are you on this board?

Seriously, we can't discuss things we have no control over? That's pretty much everything related to Iowa athletics. We can't make predictions and guess the outcomes of future games? Give me a break. Why don't you just take your ball and go home.

Why am I on this board? Because I love and support the Iowa Hawkeyes. Grow up dude. Sorry I don't look at the schedule two years out wondering and predicting on how we might do when there are so many things that can and will change between now and then. This year isn't even officially done yet. If I were to sit down and dream ahead to next year I would hope we could get 10 wins, but that's kind of my hope or goal every year. Didn't mean to ruffle any feathers for those that want to look forward and try to figure out how we'll do based on our schedule for each year.

I go into every year hoping and trying to find reasons Iowa can win them all. In the event they lose I'm bummed out about it for all of a day or two, and then I hope for the next best thing. This year I wanted 13-0. Then 12-1, then 11-2, and so on...8-5...disappointing? Yeah. Ruin my year? Not so much.

That's fine if you don't do that. But why even post in a thread clearly titled "Next Year" if you don't like to do that? That's my point.

Sorry for the harshness of the post. The negative Nancy's have taken over the board and it must be getting to me.:)

I think next year our O Line will be good.......REAL GOOD maybe and we will need to tote the rock with coker, hopefully AROB, and one more good back at least. I'm a bit worried about TE and WR just because we haven't seen a lot from K Davis, CJ Fed and the bunch yet. Our D will have to be better and honestly all the playing time at LB should help us next year.....It hurt like hell this year at times but should help us out next year.
I think we have a good schedule.....not easy by any stretch but some winnable games. I would suggest 7-9 wins.
