Iowa stepped forward last week with a scholarship offer for '18 Michigan athlete Ben VanSumeren. He spoke with HN about the opportunity and when he might visit campus:

Okay, if we ain't gonna get Hart, take this guy. Take both if we can (I know, we're out of it for hart). I laughed 3 times the way this kid just tanked 3 guys. I mean he flattened them. I do have one criticism, though. If he wouldn't seek contact simply for the sake of pummeling someone, he'd get to the ball faster! :D LOL! Get this kid on the bus. HE looks like a "bully of the big 10" type player. He's got that eff you punk attitude we need. Don't get me wrong, I think he has legit B1G talent, but he's more Jack Lambert than anything else and I love that at linebacker.

Holy smokes ... this kid is a bad ass. He needs to be on the D side of the ball IMO. I'm sold, future Hawkeye LB. Looks like he could play B1G ball right now.

Totally agree. He's the kind you hate when he's playing against us but love to have on our team. 40" vertical almost says te but that attitude says lber.

Crystal Ball has him 88% to Iowa.

Former WMU commit gets Big Ten offer after earning No. 1 TE rating in US

VanSumeren earned the top overall rating at the Cleveland combine, which includes freshman, sophomores and juniors. He also had the top vertical jump of 40.3 inches, and finished in the 99th percentile for Peak Power and Agility and ran a 4.76-second 40-yard dash, feats which earned him MVP of the camp.

“Ever since I was invited to the camp, I was really working on the four events they test at,” said VanSumeren, whose score of 127.74 was the top TE score and the 10th highest total in the country for any position.

Iowa is recruiting him as a linebacker. I'm sure he likes that the position has three senior starters this season.

What I found stated what he did as a TE at the Nike camp and also had video of him as a TE, but video of him as a LB makes me see that this may be where he plays. 4.7 40, 475 deadlift, 40 inch vertical. Amazing drive and work ethic. I think we can find a place for him somewhere.

The more like him at LBer the better. We got plenty of good TEs and I'm tired of all the glass-half-empty-folk and their "Our LBers graduate oh woe is me" BS.
