Newest Bracetology: Iowa Down To An 8 Seed

I think I would prefer a 10 seed. Might get a slightly tougher draw in the 1st round but would avoid the 1 seed in the 2nd.

Funny Mr. Davis reference. This team has the make up of some of his teams. Plenty of useable bodies to throw on the floor but few difference makers. Mentally or physically.

With the added headscratcher of not running some kind of press for more than 2 minutes a game. I think Mr. Davis was honest about what he had, Fran is a little jaded about the quality of his teams.
 
I wish we would press aggressively or not at all. None of the 3/4 court trap nonsense. I wish there was some stats kept on this but I would bet stacks of money that it gave up more easy baskets than it produced in conference play.
 
It seems like a lock that Iowa will play a 1 or 2 seed in their second game should they advance that far. Im not positive but I dont think Iowa can play Villanova in the round of 32....same with Michigan or Wisconsin. So they'll likely be matched with Arizona/Kansas/Florida/Duke/Wichita State.

Maybe if they won the BTT they could work their way up to a 6 seed, but that's quite a climb in the final weekend
 
I say bring on Wichita in the second round. At least it would be an opportunity for a great memory in knocking off an undefeated team. If the Hawks lose, it was expected anyway.

They dropped 2-4 seeds (depending on if you looked at ESPN, CBS or SBA) in just 3 days after the MSU, Illannoy losses.

If ... and it's an ENORMOUS IF ... Hawks and McCaffery can straighten out their heads / subsitutions to finally play to their potential for 40 minutes, they have the opportunity to play back up to the 6 seed by beating NwU, MSU and Wisky.

EVERY single time a door has opened for them to play thru this season, they've walked straight into the wall. BTT presents yet another chance for redemption and is really about pride, effort and respect as it is about winning. Will they continue to be not ready for prime time or realize what's at stake?

Please, they would need to win the BTT to even have a chance at moving up to a 6. And sorry but that ain't going to happen.
 
I think at this point its very hard to move up seeds as the NCAA committee is already starting to meet to decide seedings. Every team can only lose 1 game between now and Sunday so its very hard to change the committee's mind based on one loss here or there. Especially since most of those losses will be to other top teams.

I think making the BTT championship game would get Iowa a 7 seed. Beating MSU would get them an 8 seed, losing to MSU or NW would get them a 9 seed. Winning the BTT could get them a 6 but I doubt it. I'm pretty sure all of the seeds will be mostly solidified by Saturday so moving up 2 seeds (jumping 5-8 teams) would be highly unlikely

I don't know about that. In 2001 Iowa entered the BTT as a bubble team (18-11, 7-9) as a 6th seed ironically, needing a win over 11th seeded Northwestern, to secure a 10 or 11 seed in the NCAAs

They won the whole beating the 11, 3, 7, & 4 BTT seeds and ended up with a 7 seed in the big dance. Evidence is there that a team can jump a few seed lines during their conference tournament. Particularly if their conference is loaded with good teams. NCAA committee loves neutral court wins.

IMO a loss to Northwestern = 10/11 seed
Win over Northwestern = 8/9 seed, doesn't really matter
Wins over Northwestern & MSU = 7 seed
Wins over Northwestern, MSU, & Wisconsin = 6 seed
Wins over Northwestern, MSU, Wisconsin, & Michigan = 5 seed, IMO that's Iowa's ceiling as far as seed goes.

Certainly upsets happen. Wisconsin may not get to the semis, Michigan may not get to the finals. But as Buster said, the opportunity is there for Iowa to get a good seed. They just have to take advantage of it.

In Lunardi's bracket Iowa would play Arizona in the 2nd game (Unless Weber State beat them) At a #10 in the West (Anaheim) Iowa would have to get past Wisc to get the the Sweet 16. Interesting scenarios and really how you get seeded for Iowa could make a huge difference but agree with ibahawkeye here on being a #10 rather than an #8.

I mean a game against (9)George Washington and then (1)Wichita State wouldn't be terrible for Iowa. However, a game against (9)Baylor and (1)Florida would not be ideal. Those brackets mean so much
 
I really want to avoid Florida. Other than that I really don't care. Iowa just lost to the 7th, 8th and 9th seeded team in the Big ten so maybe it doesn't matter who Iowa plays.
 
I'd love for Iowa to play Wichita State in the tournament. As crappy as Iowa has played the past few weeks, I honestly think they can beat the Shockers.
 
We're not winning against any seed if we don't figure out how to defend but if we do I wouldn't be against this bracket. I'm not really that scared of Arizona. I'm not really scared of any team, honestly. We either figure it out and compete with anyone or we continue to suck and lose to anyone.
 
My top three right now are Duke, Florida and Wichita State. I really do believe people are underrating the Shockers because of their conference.
 
If this is true and we are 8 right now.

What happens in BTT
Lose first game and we drop to 9 or heck a 10?
Win 1 in BTT stay at 8 Seed?
Win 2 in BTT rise to 7 Seed?
Win 3 in BTT stay at 7 or rise to 6 Seed?
Win BTT back to a 6 Seed?
