New seating arrangement

I got an email tonight for student season ticket holders regarding the student section. From now on, the student will have rows 1-23 reserved in sections E-K (behind the basket). Not quite a ring around the arena, but at least it gets the entire student section closer to the action, rather than packing them in a few sections and going all the way to the top.

Not sure how many student tickets are generally used but if I was in charge of the seating chart I would take the students and place them in a horseshoe manner starting behind the opponents bench and wrapping the 1st few rows around the opponents end.

The 2nd half is where the crowd and distractions matter the most. If you place the students on the opponents end of the arena then the noise should limit the communication and add to the distraction. THis would mean Section B through M would be occupied by students in rows 1-?.

This also allows premium seating for the the large donors to be floorside in the front rows including center court on both sides of the arena. Students don't need to wrap the entire arena but rather concentrate the noise into the area that matters most.

unless we get students to show up game in and game out, none of it matters. If we can get close to selling out every game and students do come out in groves, then this is big.

Any students being behind the opposing team bench reminds me of the Drake students at Vets in the '60s who would all sit behind both benches. The ones behind the visitors would occasionally throw coins at their bench. It got to the point that Al McGuire would not bring Marquette to play Drake unless the students were moved to the opposite corner from their bench. Great games.

The loudest venue for basketball I have ever been in, 5 times louder than the old fieldhouse and carver, was the drake-louisville MVC playoff game in '69 that sent Drake to almost beating ucla. IT was a deafening roar, constant for 30 minutes as drake blew out three future NBAers out in the first half.

You just wanted to take this moment to tell us all you're old didn't you?

"5 times louder than the old fieldhouse"
ROFLMAO! Now I know you exaggerate.

My ears are STILL ringing from going to games at the Fieldhouse
