New Rule - History counts in the record books

Look I'm not trying to poop in anyones Cheerios here but...

JD - I'm looking at you. If this team had won one more game on the road this year, they wouldn't have set the school record for wins at home because they'd be playing on a neutral court in a better tournament.

If there was ever a glad handing, Alford-Esque, sports information department ******** statistic to come out of this season, this is most certainly it.

Same thing with the total wins in a year thing... if memory serves, in the not so distant past there was a 16 game league schedule. And the league tournament is still newish all things considered, that also happened to coincide with the death of Iowa basketball. So we're playing several more games a year than we did when Iowa basketball used to be good.

None of this makes the statistic untrue, but the fact that it's even being talked about is fairly ridiculous.

This is the same argument that is made about KF winning more games a year than Fry did. Well sure, we have an extra game every year and it is against Central Mich... God Damnit.

The total number of games played hasn't changed since they went to an 18 game schedule, they just play two fewer OOC games now.

Hey....if you have lemons....make lemonade my friend.

With that said....you're 100% correct...most comparable stats are, well, not that comparable.

With that said, why not relax and enjoy the wins man?

Very much enjoying the win, and despite the fact that we're in the NIT, this is proving to be a very likable Hawkeye team that will have a great opportunity next year.

But we're still in the NIT, and playing ******** with statistics to make us feel better about it (especially when we ****** 5 games down our leg in league play) is bush league.

Same goes with NFL and MLB records. For the longest time there was an * by Maris's record because of the longer season. Lengthening the NFL season by 2 games made most of the records disappear right away.

Whether it's the fans, Jon, or the Sports Information Department, I'm perfectly okay with partisan hawks promoting this program. It needs it.

They won a crapload of games at home this year. Celebrating what they are, and not moaning about what they "****** down their legs" is good, IMHO.

Dude, it's Iowa. That's why there are sold out crowds here for NIT games, and not so much elsewhere. Iowans are an over-achieving, optimistic, forgiving, short memory, embracing group. It is (good or bad, in this and most cases, good) part of the DNA of an Iowan.
Now toss in some Ill, Wi, Mn, etc, passionate Hawk fans and you have the glass is half full optimism for an upcoming talented bball team. Unfortunately with many of these people and their emotions, you also get an accepting fanbase that settles for 4-8 and 6-6 football seasons, and believes that Iowa doesn't "need" to compete for conference championships and national titles.

P.S.... op, whilst I understand what your op statement is saying, lighten up on the GD language reference, the message is conveyed the same with or w/o. (i'm not one to be a curse popo, except for that word combo usage spelled out correctly and capitalized as well, somehow comes off as irreverent :) )
