Very cool news. It's pretty wicked that Iowa keeps on landing guys who were at or near the top of their recruiting board. He's definitely the sort of guy that the coaches felt was just a GREAT FIT for our program. I love guys like that!

I live in Allen Texas and am an Iowa alum. We have been going to Allen football games for about 7 years. SO HAPPY about this commit! Bud Spears is the real deal on a very highly ranked Texas 5 A football team. Should be a fabulous addition to the Hawkeyes

I live in Allen ( Iowa alum) and regularly attend Eagle football game. This kid is the real deal on a very highly ranked football team. State Champs in 08, currently ranked #24 in the nation. He was recently named the defensive player of the week by the Dallas Morning news. I knew he had a scholarship offer on the table and am thrilled he will be wearing black and gold next year!!

We all remember the last Hawkeye Linebacker named Melvin out of Texas?
That's right, Melvin Foster. He was rated the #1 linebacker recruit in the nation by Parade Magazine. Consensus 1st Team All-Big Ten his senior season. He had a solid career while at Iowa but unfortunately wrecked his knee in a post-season all-star game. Did he play just one season in the NFL?
