New Indiana head coach might need PR 101 training

Not sure if any of you caught the radio interview conducted with new Indiana football coach Kevin Wilson. What are your thoughts? Could you ever see Kirk doing this? I admit the announcers kept going on and on after the interview was over but Coach Wilson definitely did not handle the interview well. He definitely had an attitude before the interview even started. He should have opted to simply not take part in the call. Tried to attach the link but did not work so apologies in advance.

What those two guys did is the exact thing that this website (along with CyFan) ripped Matt Perraullt for. If you're gonna have a coach on, don't rip his program right before you bring him on the air.

If I'm an Indiana fan, I'm thrilled by Wilson's response to these hacks. Dude is making waves with this and signing Kiel. When was the last time people were talking about Indiana football this much?

There's nothing wrong with defending your program, which is what Wilson is doing here. Frankly, if I'm an Indiana player, I know that I finally have a coach who won't allow the program to be bullied any longer.

The radio guys are tools. Most radio personalities are. These guys think, for some reason, this coach owes them something. Coach's are firey people and if you're going to say negative things (even if they're true) right before you bring them one, expect to hear about it.

I thought the same thing. It was a very Perrault thing to do, and they didn't handle it professionally at all.

As for the coach, good for him. He doesn't need PR training--he's a master already! He has people talking about Indiana football!

If he came on there and said, "Aw, shucks, we're not going to be very good for a few years," NOBODY would be talking about them today.

I didn't think the radio guys were over the top before bringing him on.
I thought Wilson was sort of jerk the way he presented himself off the bat.
After the interview, I thought the radio guys were awful in some of their comments.

The host was laughing about how Indiana never scored a touchdown when he was in college less than a minute before they brought him on! Coach Wilson probably wouldn't have been a jerk off the bat if he hadn't been on hold and heard the entire exchange mocking his program before being introduced. It was amateur radio, they were caught up in their playing days and not the upcoming guest. KF wouldn't have gotten so heated, but I bet he would've been real short and to the point in the same situation.

Jack Trudeau made a small joke about not hearing the Indiana fight song while he was the QB at Illinois over 25 years ago, and then immediately praised IU and said his kids go to school there.

Wilson was completely out of line to start the call, and after dumping the call, the hosts made plenty of nasty comments.

But make no mistake, Wilson instigated this incident all the way. He could have taken the high road and promoted his program - and he chose not to.

This is how I heard it too.
The ending of the clip can make you really dislike the radio guys, but if you go back and listen, it was very tame and amiable to start... there wasn't anything really big that they said to deserve the attitude that Wilson gave.

I thought the same thing. At first I thought the coach was being a jerk, then I thought the hosts were being jerks.

Plenty of "jerkery" to go around on this one.

The coach didn't sound like somebody I'd like to play for, though.

Wilson came off as a meatball, and that was not the way to handle it. Shockjocks like these guys are jerks by nature, but you can never win with them if you go on the offensive. I heard the same thing years ago when SA took on Boers and Bernstein on the Score...they are total jagoffs, but SA continues to take a beating from them.

Thin skin or not, you invited the man to be on your show, have enough respect to not take jabs at his program while he is on hold. Do it before or after he calls in, not while you KNOW he is on hold. I thought the coach got his crack in with the NW thing and then seemed willing to answer their questions no matter how irritated he sounded. They chose to be "offended" by his attitude and go off the hinge. All three could've done better, but if I am an IU fan I am not mad at my new football coach.

Pretty sure he promoted his program. When else have people talked this much about Indiana football?

Indiana may be proud of him for defending the program, but the nation-wide attention has not been positive.

Maybe not from people that crave passive head coaches, but coaches like Saban do stuff like this to the media every other day.
