New Hampton OL Noah Fenske Picks Hawkeyes

It seems to me that we have to be close to our target number of scholarships for OLine in this cycle. Any idea how many linemen they want in this class? I like how we are getting the line filled early. It should give us a load of time to focus in on skill positions.

He jumped three whole stars on Rivals after signing committing to Iowa! So take that, naysayers!

I'm a bit surprised they accepted his commitment this early since they are in on several higher profile linemen.

You would have to think they would still take a combination of Britt, Keegan and Quinn Carroll, and then there's Putman, the guard who moved to Florida that they are still aggressively recruiting. Fenske has upside, but he strikes me more as a fall-back type.

Any word, Rob, on whether we are out of the running on those other four? I thought we were in good position there, especially with Britt and Keegan.

Fallback recruits are not offered in January/February. I am not saying he is going to win the Outland, or even see meaningful snaps - that is going to depend on him. But the coaches obviously ranked him high enough to pull the trigger this early in the cycle.

I agree, and I'm not implying they made the wrong choice. It just strikes me a little odd that we pulled the trigger when we already have two very good OL commits and are in on some very high profile guys.

As stated above, it makes you wonder if we are filling up our allotted '19 offensive line slots too quickly. I'd hate to see us lose out on two or three of the guys I listed due to our slots being full.

I think the ship has sailed with Carroll and Keegan. I think it's heading out of the harbor with Putnam. Britt still is very much in play.

Thanks. That probably explains why they moved ahead with Fenske. I knew Carroll was a strong Notre Dame lean, but that's too bad about Keegan. I thought we were still in the running there.

I've heard Keegan was put out because we didn't offer sooner.

At this point I no longer spend time worrying about the Oline. We have proven over and over again that we can make NFL caliber lineman whether their name is Orlando Brown or Robert Gallery. I actually like that the Oline is filling fast because that will give the coaches more time to double down on the other positions recruiting.

Don't get me wrong, I don't have an issue at all filling up the OL spots early. I was just concerned that doing so would jeopardize our chances with some pretty good recruits, but, as Rob said, it looks like Britt is the only one left, and my guess is they would accept his commitment either way.

Ideally, my preference would be for them to focus on WRs Bell and Massey (would love to flip him from ISU), and the two RBs, Brock and Hall.

Yup more time spent on WR,RB,DL and LB those are the positions that Iowa doesn't reload in. That is where natural talent upon arrival at Iowa has the most impact. I sure hope we land Bell. He would bring some legitimate fire power to the receiving corps. Also I would like to see a stud LB this year too. Michigan flipped one from us last cycle that I thought was an absolute monster. We need to find our next great MLB this cycle.

We are in on some good LBs. Campbell and Kiser look like good bets, and Henrich would be a great get, but it will be very difficult to pull him out of Omaha.

I think we're in better shape with Henrich than most realize. I know at least one of his parents is an Iowa alum.
