New Football Commitment

My guess is that the words like, "back when I was coaching Gronk" probably were mentioned a time or two. My other guess is that probably works on a TE recruit. My last guess is that Brian Ferentz is a good recruiter, and these young recruits like what they're hearing about the future of the offense.

But...but... nepotism....

I think TP was the lead recruiter for this guy. I could be wrong but I thought Wisconsin was his territory. I think TP will be the hire that could benefit us the most

In the case of Plumb one would have to give Geil a share of credit for contributing to Plumb's decision as well. Players recruiting players is much more a factor these days than days gone by with the advent of numerous camps, social media, etc.

With the recruits from 2019 (4 stars), does it help persuade any of the 2018 recruits?
The 2019 guys have a unique opportunity to become some of the best recruiters in Iowa history. They can definately impact 2018 and should be working the 2019 recruits already.

I don't want to get to wound up over these guys just yet. I did that a year ago and for some reason it all fell apart. With that said I can't help but get really interested in the recruitment that's going on. ;)

The difference is Kirk develops NFL talent while Saban recruits it.

Pierschbacher was an NFL talent when he goes to Alabama but a project if he would've come to Iowa? I think Iowa has signed some NFL talent. I've seen more than a few high school All-Americans come our way.

Iowa no doubt signs NFL talent here and there. Almost every player Saban brings in has NFL talent.

But...but... nepotism....

It has yet to be proven what Iowa's offensive stats will be under bf. recruiting is one thing. using those recruits to direct a productive offense is entirely another thing. but you're being a bit optimistic if you don't think nepotism played at least a smart part; unless, of course, you truly believe bf is the most qualified OC in all of America to be OC at Iowa. Jury is out on bf as oc.

If we could win a bowl game, or be competitive...I think it would help recruiting...

I'm not concerned about making a bowl this season. Next year, absolutely. This new staff has shown the will to recruit (much) better; but its all about winning.

Whoa there big boy, it was a joke.
And I wouldn't call it optimistic to say that nepotism didn't play a part, I would call it delusional. But to dismiss him off the bat because of it (not saying specifically that you have) is just as delusionally premature.

Recruiting has not been a strong suit with the last two OCs. A QB here or there or a regional contact, but not a strength. I dl feel BF is a step up there.

Now if you were to ask me if BF was the most qualified candidate in the country to become an OC, then I would have to say no. But when you phrase it as the most qualified candidate to become Iowa's OC, this is a much more interesting conversation.

As you say, the jury is still out on the stats of his offense, but really who gives a crap on the stats. Winning matters. If Iowa goes 13-0 averaging 200 yards of total offense a game, then it sounds like 200 yards of offense is what they needed to win. Because that is the only stat that matters.
