New Defensive Back Commit

From watching his videos it looks like he lacks great speed but he has really good ball skills and is a great tackler. Is it me or does he look taller than 5'11? Maybe put on some weight and have him be a safety.

I do have a little concern that a kid from Dallas TX doesn't have any great offers but his video was impressive for sure

Nothing wrong with getting kids from Dallas. Regardless of what offers they have or don't have you know they've been playing against top competition.

That's not what I meant and hopefully it didn't come off that way. I love getting kids that have competed against the best, it's just odd that a kid in an area that is recruited as heavily as Dallas doesn't have more offers. Especially when his tape looks really solid.

Holy crap, that kid can do it all....I especially like how he plays "D"...good reaction to the ball and gritty (not afraid to hit people) :)

No worries Wassabbe. Really wasn't going at your post. I just really like that Iowa has been getting some kids out of Texas the last couple of years.

I really like AJ Jones and think after a year in the program he will be in the mix in 2014 at WR. Pretty sure his bother is committed for the class of 2014.

Even going back to the Fry era, there are a lot of Texas kids that the big schools pass up, and they have come to Iowa and been good/great players. Many times they are probably overlooked because the elite players down there are so f'ing off the charts good.

Some thoughts about Jackson's offer list:

After looking at his team's schedule, there are a ton of super-talented teams on it. The teams in his district have produced dozens of 4 and 5-star level players in the past few years. Denton Guyer's Mario Edwards, Jr was the #1 player in America in the '12 class, and Wichita Fall Rider's QB JT Barrett was a 4-star who was recruited by everyone before signing with Ohio State in this past class. With as much talent as has come out of that area recently, it is very possible that Jackson has simply fallen through the cracks.

On the other hand, with as much talent as comes out of that area, it seems that dozens of college coaches would be watching Jackson's team. It seems odd that they would ALL overlook a talented prospect.

After watching the video, if he has a good year this year, I think we will see more suitors at his door. If he makes it to campus, I think he could be a very solid football player by his junior year.

He says that TCU and Houston have also been talking to him.
6'1 corner with ball skills. That reminds me of Hyde.

Iowa turns unheralded 2-star CBs into professional football players. From BHGP cornerback position review from July:

Assume the Position 2013: Cornerback - Black Heart Gold Pants

Here's a list of the top Iowa cornerbacks, by season, since 2005:
2005: Jovon Johnson (Winnipeg Blue Bombers/former CFL Defensive Player of the Year)
2006-07: Charles Godfrey (Entering his sixth season with the Carolina Panthers)
2008: Bradley Fletcher (First season with Philadelphia after four seasons with St. Louis)
2009: Amari Spievey (Fourth season with the Detroit Lions)
2010-11: Shaun Prater (Second season with the Cincinnati Bengals)
2012: Micah Hyde (Just got drafted by Green Bay)

Since 2005, there are two Iowa starting cornerbacks who are not still making money playing football: Antwan Allen and Adam Shada. Of those six players who all made a career playing football, one of them -- Prater -- earned even a three-star rating; that's an average rating of 2.17 for six unheralded guys that Iowa converted into pros.

That's a remarkable run of form, and a credit to Phil Parker's ability as a secondary coach. Iowa is offensive line U and tight end U, but it's really under-recruited cornerback U more than anything else
